Now if that's right then it's not so much of a slowdown as it is a different focus.
But they have to focus on things like die shrinkage and other improvements because they hit a thermal wall. So to get more power and performance they have to approach things different than just throwing more GHZ and "raw" power at things. Same thing happened with CPUs and then they moved to multi-core chips and more efficiency. You're wrong though about the having the fastest card for 1 or 2 gens later. The AMD 5870's and 6870's are definitely faster than the 4870's. Same goes for Nvidia's line. Graphics cards have actually taken some big leaps during the last 2 - 3 generations.

And isn't this Core i7 platform sticking around longer than all those Pentium, etc. ones did? My memory is pretty hazy on that.
You're wrong here. Plus Intel just realized the 2nd generation of its Core i chips that easily smoke the previous gen due to some big efficiency changes and some other redesigns. They're keeping the name though, but you can tell a second gen chip cause the numbering starts with a 2, so like the Core i5 2500.

Intel and AMD, while they may keep names around have made some pretty big changes and leaps in actual power and efficiency.

I'll stop shitting up this thread though.

  8. I guess its more that worthwhile upgrades are less frequent (from a PC gamer's standpoint). And that of course is dictated directly by the stagnation in engine development. Still, I'm sure that there would have been more of a performance leap between the HD 5XXX series and the HD6XXX series, for example, had the demand existed in the market.

But yeah, time to stop shitting up this thread.

  9. I got a 3DS and SFIV. My top left hinge is a little bit wobbly, has anyone noticed this? Loving it so far!
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  10. Picked up SSFIV3DE on a whim because why the fuck not.
