Thread: IGN's Top 25 Animated Movies of All Time

  1. Mask of the Phantasm is a giant pile of shit, and Metropolis? There's no way anyone would even list that garbage dump of a movie if it wasn't an "UMMM, WHAT ELSE CARTOONS WE PICK?" sort of thing. Shit, The Last Unicorn is better.
How to Train is good, but not that good, Beauty and the Beast is stupid. Whatever stupid idiot even nominated Ghost in the Shell should be raped. This list is awful! I disagree with every bit of it. Up is good! Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a lot better! Little Mermaid is ooooookaaaaaaaaay, Cats Don't Dance is a lot more enjoyable. These people don't watch any animations at all!

    I hate your face.

  3. I saw Triplets of Bellville in theaters, but can't remember anything about it besides the guy living near trains or something and bicycles were involved. I recall it being good but have never had an urge to watch it again. I think I just liked it because of the music.

I loved the South Park movie, but since it was largely a piece of immediate cultural satire with a good amount of shock humor, it loses a lot on subsequent viewings years removed from its release. Should definitely not be number 6.

Still a pretty decent list overall, though I haven't seen like five of those.

  4. I guess these guys didn't get the memo that once you turn 20 you're supposed to realize that Akira and especially Ghost in the Shell are really awful movies?

I mean I'll still watch Akira and enjoy it a bit because it's 1. Pretty and 2. Reminds me how goddamn amazing the comic was, but come on.

  5. Akira wins for having the highest production values everrrrr. The story is bullshit, and a third of the movie just drags, but holy shit @ the stuff they do visually. Soundtrack is crazy-awesome, too.

GitS was kind of boring on day 1, and it's SUPER BORING now. I wish I never saw the sequel. I sort of wish Tank Police would have had a feature instead?

    (or Orion?)

    (or a proper true-to-the-comic Appleseed?)

  6. Akira is shit.

  7. TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  8. Only real issue I still have with GITS is the talking heads finale. I think I liked the sequel a little more, but it felt odd in the sense that it came across as more like an episode in a series instead of a stand-alone work. At the same time that gives me the impression of extending some of the metaphors they were basing most of the story on, but that could be chalked up to rationalizing nonsense. Either way I enjoyed it a lot.

The first CG movie was close, although unlike the comic book the battle scenes made sense. I think Shirow actually gets worse as time goes on, in GITS2 he would just draw a few characters on a page that weren't even interacting with each other and on the next page he would reveal they were actually fist fighting. One day that man will learn how to draw a fight. Or he'll just continue to perfect his anthropomorphic horse porn techniques. Maybe even merge them!

  9. Shirow never should have been allowed near a computer. I'm starting to think you have trouble following comic book fight scenes?

Old inky Shirow comics were great! Everything seemed like it was moving a million miles an hour, but there was more than enough attitude and detail conveyed in the drawings.

That man loved him some cutaways.

I have issues with fight scenes drawn by one man and that means I have trouble in general? What?
