I'm with the Donna fans. I was just happy to have a run where there wasn't some "I want to bone the Doctor but the Doctor won't bone me" undertone. Even now with Amy, at least it's done in a funny way. Martha was just sad.
I did what Chux is doing sometime after the third season, getting suckered in by someone showing me Blink and going back to the start catch up. Eccleston was cool, loved Tennant but Davies (the old show runner/head writer) needed to go. The last Tennant episode was one of the worst things I've ever watched. Really. Half the shit in part 1 just seemed like a random pile of loosely related scenes where a bunch of WTF was going on and in part 2 the Doctor just turns into a whiny bitch. The guy deserved better for his last run imo and the whole thing nearly made me quit watching but I figured I'd give Moffat a chance.
Holy shit, season 5 was pretty good, huh? It has its low points and as someone else said it's definitely to be watched as a whole instead of being able to just pick out solid, stand alone episodes. Actually using the time travel aspect for more than just establishing the setting is never a bad thing. I won't talk too much about it to avoid spoiling shit for those catching up but you'll enjoy it.
Also, Matt Smith pulled it off. When I first saw who it was going to be I was even more tempted to stop watching. He's not my favorite but he made me shut up about the choice and go along with it.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.
