Thread: Doctor Who

  1. I'm with the Donna fans. I was just happy to have a run where there wasn't some "I want to bone the Doctor but the Doctor won't bone me" undertone. Even now with Amy, at least it's done in a funny way. Martha was just sad.

I did what Chux is doing sometime after the third season, getting suckered in by someone showing me Blink and going back to the start catch up. Eccleston was cool, loved Tennant but Davies (the old show runner/head writer) needed to go. The last Tennant episode was one of the worst things I've ever watched. Really. Half the shit in part 1 just seemed like a random pile of loosely related scenes where a bunch of WTF was going on and in part 2 the Doctor just turns into a whiny bitch. The guy deserved better for his last run imo and the whole thing nearly made me quit watching but I figured I'd give Moffat a chance.

Holy shit, season 5 was pretty good, huh? It has its low points and as someone else said it's definitely to be watched as a whole instead of being able to just pick out solid, stand alone episodes. Actually using the time travel aspect for more than just establishing the setting is never a bad thing. I won't talk too much about it to avoid spoiling shit for those catching up but you'll enjoy it.

Also, Matt Smith pulled it off. When I first saw who it was going to be I was even more tempted to stop watching. He's not my favorite but he made me shut up about the choice and go along with it.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

  2. Matt Smith's Doctor is really fun to watch, I could easily see him becoming one of my favorites. The latest season was good, although there was a stretch of boring episodes starting with the lizard people that dragged it down a notch. I LOVED the last two episodes, especially how different they were from one another while continuing the same story. Part one with the big monster round up and part two with just the core cast. The upcoming Christmas special share the same writer/director team so I've high hopes for that as well.

Has anyone ever checked out the audio plays?

  3. I've heard some of the older ones, it might be the ideal format for Doctor Who. Often the same voices as the television show, none of the questionable production values!

  4. Alright, I just picked up a collection of the Eighth Doctor CDs. I feel like that actor got the shaft haha.

  5. I dunno, they kept his character going for a loooooong time even though he only got to be in what, one movie?

  6. Yeah, one movie. I thought he was decent, and the fact they kept him going so long in audio stuff makes me want to check some of it out.

  7. The audio book think is kind of a slippery slope, you've got companion spinoff series' getting spinoffs.

  8. Anyone here actually watch any of the Sarah Jane Adventures?

Matt Smith has a huge forehead, it bothers me. He's pretty okay, and I like how he delivers the line "bow ties are cool." Pretty good season so far, but it still doesn't feel right. I also hated Donna in the Bride movie, but as a companion she was actually pretty damn awesome.

I would watch Sarah Jane if it were on Netflix. I'm sure it's terrible but who knows.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1
    My Backloggery

  10. It's written for very small children. Like, reads the backup features in Ranger Rick magazine-age.
