Don't get me wrong, Tom Hardy's great, but I much preferred the rumor of him as Hugo Strange. An insane shrink who figures out Batman's secret identity, then tries to either kill him or manipulate him into quitting... so he can take over as Batman himself? That's a concept I want to see Nolan play with. Not... Evil, Steroid-Fueled, Bargain Bin Hulk.

I'm 90% positive Bane will fill that role in this movie.

Instead of every other watered-down, licensed portrayal of Bane, think of Tom Hardy in Bronson (maybe less comedic).

Bane is smart, in the comics during Knightfall he figures out Batman's identity. We can't help it that the following games/movies/cartoons etc watered him down. I'll place dollars on the fact that Hardy plays bane as a smart, huge street tough that overtakes the underworld and breaks down Batman.

Though imprisoned, his natural abilities allow him to develop extraordinary skills within the prison's walls. He reads as many books as he can get his hands on, builds up his body in the prison's gym, and learns to fight in the merciless school of prison life.

Aware that a direct assault on Batman would be foolish, Bane destroys the walls of Arkham Asylum, allowing its deranged inmates (including the Joker, the Scarecrow, the Mad Hatter, the Ventriloquist, Firefly, Cavalier, and Victor Zsasz) to escape into Gotham City, where Batman spends three months rounding them up. Running himself to exhaustion, Batman returns to Wayne Manor, where Bane awaits him, having determined Batman's secret identity. Bane fights Batman in the Batcave, defeats him and delivers the final blow: Bane breaks Batman's back, leaving him paraplegic; Bane thus becomes the only man to have "Broken the Bat"

If he can't use him we should get a gritty version of poison ivy and bane. Just make poison ivy carry realistic toxins and bane can be all decked out on steroids.
