Dude from the first movie could come back. He has a Lazarus pit after all.

Riddler is a shitty villain compared to some of the other people in the batman universe.
Bring on Solomon Grundy or Clayface. Also get Robin in this one so they can work up to the Red Mask story arc.
solomon grundy may be a better green lantern villain than the riddler but he is certainly not a better batman villain
my take on nygma would have been an FBI agent or somesuch brought in to trackdown the freshly "rogue" batman

also, he said the villain won't be the riddler, not that the riddler won't show up

I believe the villain maybe Two Face and/or Hugo Strange.
also filming is starting in February.

I thought the exact same. But it's easy to see why they would keep the Dark Knight moniker given how wildly success the second film was.
Agreed.
Same here, especially as the Riddler is probably my favorite Batman villain (even though I can't point to any particular story with him as being great). Maybe he's too camp/light for Nolan, but I would have liked to have seen him try.
But I've been thinking about this since reading all this this morning and it occurred to me that Nolan's (and Bale's) trilogy could pretty much be the story of the end of the mob (or at least their major presence and overt influence) in Gotham thanks to the rise of Batman.
From Batman 4 on, then it basically does become "The Caped Crusader" and you have Batman and Gordon match wits with the Riddler, along with other future foes.
In line with that, an additional idea that popped into my head was having the end of The Dark Knight rises feature a desperate Tony Zucco, one of the last remaining mob members remaining in Gotham, resort to extorting the Gotham circus. And so on, the origin of Robin. The Dark Knight Rises ends with Wayne taking Grayson into his home, the rebuilt Wayne Manor (the trilogy begins with young Bruce at Wayne Manor and ends with older Bruce and young Grayson at new Wayne Manor).
Just an idea I had, anyway.

Lame. Clayface is one of the most versatile villains in that whole universe.
If he can't use him we should get a gritty version of poison ivy and bane. Just make poison ivy carry realistic toxins and bane can be all decked out on steroids.
I love the grittiness of the Nolan universe for Batman. It makes the stoey more compelling and believable.
I gotta agree with Burg and Opaque here. Out of all of Batman's villains The Riddler is the most grounded in reality.
He has no superhuman strength, no superhuman intelligence created by chemicals or radiation. He's a smart guy who reveals his plans by laying out riddles. This is the most Nolan-ish villain in Batman's Rogue gallery.
Killer Croc? Has reptilian skin, a rare birth defect. And has superhuman strength and jaws.
Penguin? Raised by penguins.
Catwoman? Master thief and lived with cats.
Poison Ivy? Doused with plant toxins can now control plants with her mind.
