Thread: Darius Burst: Another Chronicle (Arcade/Taito)

  1. Here's Famitsu's screen grab of the new Pengo. It's alright I guess, but a multi-player Up'N Down would be better- try to be first to get 10 flags, but jump onto other players' cars to steal one from them if needed.

The new Pengo could use a visual overhaul similar to the Japanese Mega Drive sequel Pepenga Pengo- which is on the JPN Wii VC. IINM, this showed up on Sega Channel as one of the exclusives.

  2. Video & more info.

Here's video from the first location test on 8/8.

New pics from GameWatch & accompanying story.
They look like upscaled PSP assets with sharper textures and improved lighting. Alright, but I still had hoped for something a bit more.

DBAC will be 200 yen per play, featuring a new ship type called "Formula" and a rumbling seat similar to LA Machineguns. From a translation of GW's story, it seems there is an individual credit system which shares 3 lives between the players, and additional lives can be bought by adding coins anytime. This early version has what looks like 3 stages per game max, but that should be fixed.

According to Seismic @ shmupsforum: DBAC reprises some BGM and Zones from the original Darius Burst- but there are some tweaks to existing Zones. One stage has moving platforms similar to stage 4 from Last Resort on Neo-Geo. Multipliers are back. While enemies attack the same as they do on the PSP DB, they come out in greater numbers.

  3. English version being produced.

Taito is making Darius Burst AC available to other territories with an English language version. The cabinet goes for about $13000, which ensures you'll probably find it only at KDB, D&B, or GameWorks.

  4. $13,000? No wonder arcades are dead. Namco has made a Pac-Man cab for up to 4 players that costs just over $4k, and even that seems expensive.

I can't wait to pay $2 for one credit in a shooter where you're likely lucky if you see the second level on your first play.

  6. I still hate paying $0.50 for one play. Keep arcade games, lose the arcades.

  7. Taito should consider an upright SD model of DBAC with no seat, 2 player support instead of 4, and a smaller screen setup. At least the existing model's price is lower than the launch price of Namco's recent gun games ($18000).

$4275 seems expensive for a Pac-Man game. It runs on some new hardware called System 157- could this be a downgraded System 357 with less RAM than PS3, since PM Battle Royale wouldn't need so much RAM?

It's probably time for Namco to bring out something similar to NESiCAxLive, and for Taito to get NxL out here. The only catch is that there's a 31% cut taken out of each 100-yen coin dropped in, leaving the operator with 69%. Taito is forcing the operators to charge 100 yen per play. Still NxL could be OK if it lets arcades get new titles more cheaply. The catch is that its startup cost is admittedly huge since the Hikari Router, several Vewlix cabs, and the server don't come cheap.

  8. All of the Japanese companies need to take a lesson in economics and figure out where the market is and why they can't sell games at Japanese retail in other regions. SNK played this quite well with the MVS before they became Playmore and were able to garner popularity in SE Asia and South America because of it. Example, new KOF comes out and is close to $2000 in Japan, $800 in US, $500 in 2nd world countries. They can do this because the parts to make carts were not all made in Japan.

Having to import parts to make the cab and then export them out is just stupid.

Has there been any news of this game somehow making it to a home console?

Nope, but it's still on sale for $5.99 on iOS!
