Yeah that's awful, with how much I loved the first one, I won't be buying this day 1 with their horseshit.
EA has moved beyond day one DLC. The new thing is the Signature Edition. It's just like a pre-order bonus.. except instead of being able to pick it up shortly before launch (when you'd have a chance to hear an un-embargoed review), it was only available if you pre-ordered before January 11.
That extra character/questline from the Signature Edition? Day one DLC at $7. Disgusting.
edit: OH YEAH, and the Steam version of the game didn't even go up for pre-order until after Jan 11.8.This seems too good to be true, what's the catch?
No catch, we just want to reward our most loyal fans and present them with this special version as a "thank you" for being an early adopter.

I had the Sig Edition preordered but canceled when I realized I wasn't going to beat DA:O in time. That really is trash. Glad I didn't give EA the satisfaction.
Actually every EA game has this horseshit. It makes me hate them. Activision is garbage but at least when you buy COD, you don't get Online Pass and day one DLC and all this.
This is why I'm pretty much resigned to GotY editions of games that are clearly going to have a ton of DLC, unless it's a developer/publisher I really want to support, like Bethesda. I'm waiting for the original Ultimate Edition to get back to the $25 I shouldn't have passed up during the Steam holiday sale. God knows when I'll get around to this one.
I won't front though... The Old Republic is an immediate purchase of whatever crazy edition they choose to offer me.
I got the 360 Ultimate Edition of DA1 for $15 at Target.
I can wait.
Given the quality of all of the Dragon Age: Origins DLC I could not give one fuck about any Ultimate Edition or whatever.
Waiting a couple weeks for a 10-20 dollar price drop on the other hand, that's something I think might be worth it.
Now if word gets around that the DLC is anywhere near the quality of Mass Effect 2's, I might reconsider.
There are ways to have your cake and eat it too.
The game really is worlds above the first. There's a ton of little touches like character portraits that allow for quick selection of characters on inventory and leveling screens that while minor all add up to make for a more streamlined and enjoyable game. The game also throws you a group that functionally makes sense right off the bat, instead of fucking you out of a healer if you don't play one / go to mage tower like in the first game.
