I like how even Bangai-O DC's manual mentioned that the default control scheme sucks and you should change it.

The bouncing laser also acted differently.

I'd like them a lot more if they'd make console sequels to the right games, i.e. G* Heroes.

Not fixed. Being able to use the d-pad + analog on the N64 was better than d-pad (or analog) and face buttons or the truly awful analog + dpad on DC.

  5. I could never get into the original Bangai-O (DC). I usually like Treasure games too.

  6. DS game was not good.

  7. Yeah, I kind of hated it. And I really liked the Dreamcast version.

I should have read about it instead of buying sight unseen.

  8. DS game was horrible. DC version is amazing X2. I guess whether or not I buy this depends on which version they pattern this one after.

Same. Except I loved the DC version so much I would have scoffed had anyone tried to warn me away from the DS game.

Matter of opinion. Truly, the original version is superior.
The bombs in N64 version are refilled by collecting fruit which provides a greater purpose to the fruit than just a storyline element and score accumulation.
The reflect lasers in the N64 version hone-in on enemies after they bounce.
The N64 version requires that player power up weapons. The destruction multiplier (in increments of 100, up to 400) open up a shop where weapon penetration, or power, or a shield can be purchased.
The music in the N64 version has a slight chip-tune sound to it, making the game more arcadey, imo. The simpler BG graphics in the N64 version are also more appealing to me as the focus remains on the gameplay and not some fancy paralax.
And then there's the controller issue which I believe is the weakest argument to draw comparisons between the two games. Sure I prefer the N64 controller for Bangaioh, but it plays just fine with the Dreamcast controller if you change the default scheme and get used to it after an hour or so.

All that said, yeah the DS game was one of the biggest disappointment ever. James summed it up best: that guessing game weapon selection bullshit was bullshit.
Treasure better not fuck this up.
