I just read the full Ultimatum series this morning. While I applaud the deaths of mainstay characters so the comics stay unpredictable, it was pretty fucking stupid. Why did all of a sudden Magneto have a change of heart in like two panels? His entire life was about putting mutants above humans no matter if they were a scientific experiment. And he could have stopped most of those METAL WEAPONS from cutting him and shit, yet he lets them get him. Wtf?
It's badly written. I guess the editorial mandate was "yeah go ahead and kill everybody, whatever."
Ultimates was a perpetually late book, Fantastic Four was really good but lost its direction, and X-Men was kind of a mess, so instead of trying to fix two lines, Marvel just cut down 80% of the "Ultimate" books.
