Thread: What Are You Playing? (Fall 2010)

  1. I missed a Zero part so I'm not sure I can get it now.

Demon's Souls - I can sense the brilliance everyone talks about in this game but the beginning is driving me nuts. You can't level up until after the first boss from what I understand but I keep getting killed on the first boss. I have played almost three hours and have had little advancement. So, I'm putting this aside for now. I haven't decided whether I will go back to the same save or start again as a different class but I definitely want to play it again.

Uncharted - I don't know if I like it as much as Tomb Raider Legend but I don't have any big complaints so far.

Infamous - Unlike Prototype which kind of sucked ass, this seems to be open-world superhero gaming done right. Very polished.

Killzone 2 - The controls are more sluggish than I remember the first game being. It seems this game was overhyped for being an exclusive. Still, I'm enough of an FPS fan to play more than just the top tier stuff.

  3. Pac-Mania (Arcade/JPN ver.) - My favorite in this series, even over Pac-Man CE.

Jewel Master (Genesis) - A good Magician Lord style game. Pausing lets you arrange the jewels that you get from defeated enemies as you progress. You're wearing 2 rings- one each on your left and right hand. Each ring can hold 2 jewels. The jewels represent Fire (red), Water (blue), Earth (green), and Wind (silver) and have 3 different levels each. Different combinations of the jewels produce some good (and a few useless) effects. Some enemies require a certain elemental to kill.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  4. A lot of people don't like Jewel Master, but I think there's a certain charm to it. I bought it when it came out, and I played it through to the end. It's got some great parallax scrolling too!

It's my Game of the Generation so far; glad you're giving it a shot. I hope you give it some time, as I thought it unremarkable for the first few hours. Once everything clicked, I was hooked in a big way. I've continued to play it steadily since release.

What class did you start with? Certain classes can make the beginning easier or harder, especially for new players. The importance of beginning class diminishes as you progress - one of the many interesting details about Demon's Souls.

Also, Phalanx has a major weakness: fire. You probably have firebombs or turpentine at this stage - use em!

I'm still working on Vanquish and Bayonetta, and I started Red Undead Nightmare today.

I was using the warrior or whatever they call the regular melee combat dude. And yeah, I almost killed him with fire bombs once but then after using them up I wasn't finding those anymore.

  7. Nier. So far, it's a step back for Cavia, for action games, and for humanity. I've resigned to sticking with it until the end, though.

  8. That was my initial impression, too.

    got damn shame

  9. Dissidia - PSP

lol, what the hell is going on in this game. Everything is at least twelve times more complicated than anybody ever asked any part of a game to be. Why are there, like, millions of types of points: you have your HP and PP, but then also your Brave Points, Destiny Points, Story Points, Chocobo Points, ...probably some more I'm forgetting. If there weren't so many tutorials, I'd swear Kawazu had a hand in this contraption.

I think I might be into it...

    Pre-Christmas vacation status update:

    PC: Dead Space
PS3: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Uncharted 2 (multi)
    360: DoDonPachi: Dai Fukkatsu v1.5
iPhone: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Plants vs Zombies
PSP: Pinball Heroes: Uncharted Table - I only turned this on once, but I'm excited to actually use the PSP that I'm counting it.

I really want to get all of this sans DDP knocked out before vacation starts on 12/18 so I can knock out a whole 'nother set during those two-plus weeks.
