Finally, I think knowing the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch's character spoils nothing. His identity is so clearly telegraphed that it should be immediately apparent to anyone who has even a passing familiarity with the franchise.

I must have missed the scene from Admiral Marcus' past where he got divorced and lost his infant child after a bitter custody battle and his ex moved away with her to England which would explain why his daughter has a thick British accent and he doesn't. There IS a scene like that, right?

OBVIOUSLY Mrs. Murphy was pregnant with Carol when her husband Alex was brutally gunned down by Clarence Boddicker and his thugs. Dejected and traumatized, she moved to England, remarried, and gave birth to Carol who was quickly subsumed into the nascent eugenics program, initiated by Omni Consumer Products. Admiral Marcus is actually a cyborg, formerly Alex Murphy, an iterated model of the Robocop project who survived the Eugenics Wars.
