Konami's grisly horror game franchise, Silent Hill, is coming back to movie theaters, this time with a story based on one of its best entries, Silent Hill 3. Like any movie worth watching, it will be filmed in stereoscopic 3D. Fangoria reports that the next Silent Hill flick, Silent Hill Revelation, will tell the tale of Silent Hill 3 star Heather Mason and the search for her father.

"For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand," reads the official synopsis. "Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

The first Silent Hill movie was somewhat loosely based on the plot of the debut PlayStation entry in the series. Original screenwriter Roger Avary will not return for the sequel, according to Fangoria, with Michael J. Bassett taking over writing duties.

  2. I'll still argue that the first movie set up a second movie based on SH2 pretty well, but as long as we're getting some kind of second movie and it's watchable I guess I should just be happy. Really weird how they're saying the main character is Heather Mason; are they really going to base it that directly on the game, and if so, is this second movie just going to be a totally separate story from the first?
WARNING: This post may contain violent and disturbing images.

  3. It needs to have the right music.

  4. The verbal fellatio leads me to believe this may fail.

I wonder to myself how a movie based on the second game would actually be executed. Would it have a groan-inducing Shyamalanan twist at the end? I like how Gans wanted the first to be all chicks; keeping a female protagonist is good in my eyes.

  6. And from out of nowhere comes an update.

Despite it’s poor performance at the box office, a sequel to the video game adaptation of Silent Hill is in production. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D began shooting today in Toronto with Michael Bassett (Solomon Kane) directing the pic. The sequel stars a couple of new comers, Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harrington. Clemens will be playing the lead character Heather Mason. The story follows Mason as she and her father are on the run from her past and trying to stay ahead of the dangerous forces that haunt her. “Now, as she’s about to turn 18, she suffers violent nightmares and discovers that her identity is a lie and is dragged into the demonic world of Silent Hill, where she could be trapped forever…”

The sequel will follow the story of the first film, as Empire Online reports, but will pull in elements from the other games in the series. No release date is set, but considering shooting has begun this early in the year, expect this one to hit theaters early next year.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Silent Hill film and have high hopes for the sequel. Check out the first still from the movie below, which features Clemens in her role as Mason.

  7. I enjoyed the first film. It was just a bit long-winded.

Exactly this. One of the best videogame movies, although I guess that's not saying much.

  9. I wanna see Pyramid Head rip that chick's skin off again.

  10. Yeah that part was fantastic. The film kind of went downhill from that part though. Still surprisingly entertaining and well done. Is there any hope for this new one?
look here, upon a sig graveyard.
