I think it's the best thing on TV right now. I just think Margaret is pointless and makes Nucky's motivations unclear
I guess his idea of seducing her loyalty is going to be put to the test, as was Van Aldens stickler-for-God routine. Alden is a righteous man who walks the walk. Not just talks the talk. We found that out last episode. It's writing like that I like in this show. (also the scope of the story)
I don't think so. It's not just a matter of his cronies blabbing on him. He'd be put in jail, sure, but his people knowing is a matter of them knowing all of his numbers, and contacts, and undermining his operations. If that happened getting rid of Nucky would be a lot easier (like undercutting him as the Italians are trying right now). Sure, Mrs. Shrodder could blab on him but because of Nucky's involvement with her life it's also at the expense of herself and children. She has more to lose now - which I think is the point of her story. It's also why I think they showed Van Alden giving the money to Jimmy's wife instead of taking it for his wife's surgery. He made the right choice, firming up his role as a good FBI agent. Will Margaret have the same resolve? All of Margaret's talks with neighborhood chick Lucy have been focused on how it's not so bad being a concubine because they live well provided for. Margaret is losing her blinders to how the world works. I don't think she'll tell. I think Nucky has her right where he needs her.Originally Posted by Frogacuda
I don't have the doubt in the show most people here seem to - I was taken in on the first episode and have enjoyed the ride so far.

Between Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dexter (albeit not on the same level anymore), The Walking Dead, and Rubicon (I think it's canceled?) cable is really showing up to the table. I'm enjoying my entertainment time being spent on the couch with friends (or girl) rather than traipsing out to the theatres and paying 12 bucks for a hit-or-miss 2 hour flick. OnDemand and DVR services make commercials non-existent too.

Pretty fucking compelling and good set up for season 2.
No one watching the second season?
It's pretty good so far.
Yeah, it's been much better than the first. I kind of miss Van Alden being an FBI agent though, hopefully they get back to that soon
What do you think of the way Margaret is changing? When I thought she might keep the money from the closet I wasn't happy, but then it turned out that she's a total bad ass.
It's weird how much character development they did with her in the months we didn't see between the first season ending and the second season beginning. She went from meek to Nucky 2.0
I like Jimmy. The way they're splitting his loyalty between the Commodore and Nucky is interesting. The first season was a lot of set up for these later ones looking back... but season 1 had a lot of bad ass moments with Jimmy, Capone and Frankenstein. The new Irish guy is cool but seems like he's a bit redundant... assuming Jimmy comes back to work for Nucky eventually.

Van Alden is still a fucking weirdo, but he's less batshit crazy this season too. He was the one character in Season 1 I just couldn't get my head around. I still to this point don't get how he could murder his partner in front of like 30 people and have it never come up again.
