Thread: Just bought Gran Turismo 3.

  1. Heh, actually, I didn't have much choice in the matter. But I did get a great deal since I did get the system and the game for $15. If it wasn't for that sweet price tag, I wouldn't have a PS2 now.

Well, I agree on the analog stick, but I honestly wouldn't even consider the buttons as an option. Technically, they work. In practice, it's a novelty.

I prefer having a seperate action for braking then gas (like it should be), which the only thing I don't like about using the analog stick for gas/brake because they usually combine them. Part of that is because I tend to use gas and brake simultaneously to do minor slowing down for small turns and all that.

But hey, some can deal with that method. Just like some can deal with a gamepad for FPS'.

  3. Hah hah, I didn't know anyone else hated this game so much.

The physics aren't great. Ever seen two cars swipe each other at more than 100MPH? It's messy.

The game's not fun. I mean, the AI races perfectly. If you want to beat it, you just need a better vehicle than what the AI is using. And that's always rewarding. *Yawn*

I think Polyphony forgot what makes games fun. Taking driving tests, over and over and over? No no no... That's not entertaining in the slightest. Sure, a nice challenge for those who love repetition. I just don't know many who do...

On a side note: The rally racing in GT3 COULD be incredible. The physics in the rally races are quite fun. Racing against one opponent at a time, with a small track selection, however, is not. Oh, I think GT3 looks better than RalliSport, too. At least in some ways. I agree with the guy that said "besides the tress / shrubs / etc." - RalliSport's environments are pretty gorgeous. The vehicles aren't as spectacular, though. They look shiny-plasticky - though that's fairly common for Xbox grpahics.

Here's what Polyphony needs to do... Make some physics that are entertaining (i.e. real collisions, exaggerrated suspension), give the game a sense of speed (it's soooooo slowwwwww), and nix the license tests. The whole bit about building your car up and earning money is fantastic, and pulled off better in Gran Turismo than in any other racing game I've played. It's just not fun to play .

Did you buy the PS2 machine from a guy on crack? Maybe you meant that you got the Gran Toursimo 3 package for $15 more?

I don't get what everyone's complaining about, when it comes to GT3? Yet, some of these people praise games like Ridge Racer and such instead. Yeah, I enjoyed that one track racer back in the day. What ever happened to people wanting a little challenge in their game?

You don't have to build a car that's better than the competition to win. I've raced several tracks, where I end up 6th in the qualifiers, but can pull off first place in the race. It's just a matter of cutting off the other cars, and taking advantage of your cars strengths.

I bought the GT3 package around November of last year. I played a little here and there, and found it somewhat enjoyable. This last couple of weeks, I've decided to give GT3 a solid playtime run. The game is really deep, for a racer, and if you give it a real try, you'll realize just how great the game is. The license part of the game, is really a training tool. Once you're good enough to earn a license in a certain group, you've learned what it takes, to compete in that class. If your any good at Gran Tourismo, the licensing tests will be a breeze. If your not any good, well the license test's will get you up to speed. I can't see anyone knocking the game, unless you've put a solid 5 hours into it. It is then, that you will appreciate the game for what it is.

heh, that was me...I went back to Rallisport and I still firmly believe that GT3 spanks it's visuals...Rallisport is very barren...there's not much aside from hills and mountains...valleys, etc. It's almost bleak. Aside from the amazing grass, trees, and shrub, there's not much other trackside detail aside from some buildings and people every so often. I think GT3 looks better, and the Rally racing in it is much funner to play with better rumble and better physics. But GT3 does have those terrible flat 2D people.

Make fun of those analog buttons all you want, but it does make a difference in the game.
    You are correct sir

Racing against one opponent at a time,
To be fair, rally racing is racing against the clock, so consider yourself lucky having a single opponent
