Boo, Hiss.
Being opposed by Compass gives me a certain sense of pride.
Final Fantasy 13. I was really hoping for a new game + option to level everything up, but since that is not the case I'm all done with it.
Deus Ex HR. I really liked it, some of my thoughts on it are in it's thread.
Hopefully will finish Gears 3 soon, trying to get a cohesive 4 person game going has been pretty difficult.
#28 - Persona 3 Portable (PSP)
I grew to really like it in the end. Since it takes place within a limited timeline I wasn't able to finish everything off, so I started a new game plus like right away. Dunno if I can actually make it through again, maybe I'll play something else and come back to this someday.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

18) Alien Syndrome (Arcade/JPN version)
Stage 12 (2-5), 1117300 pts.
The Japanese version has a few differences: you need to rescue all 16 hostages on each level, but there's more time to do it (180 is the first loop time limit on this one, NOT 150). The first two bosses are shuffled around as well.
Part 1 of ReplayBurners' Alien Syndrome playthrough (USA version).
Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
Gears of War 3 (Xbox 360)
Nice way of finishing up the series. It's hard to compare this to the first two games. It doesn't have the "wow" factor or epic feel of its predecessors, but there's more of a sense of urgency and some of the sequences and fights are awesome. They didn't pull any punches with who or what you fight. The graphics and effects are even better, although the leap isn't quite that dramatic (as expected).
I didn't try out all of the new weapons, but I did like the Retro Lancer and the One Shot. The addition of mechs/exo-armor was also nice. I wasn't thrilled about some of the changes, like the Gorgon Pistol being automatic and less precise than in the last game. Also, not being able to switch out of the Torque Bow to save a shot is lame.
What I really disliked, however, was Dom not making it. It was a fucked up move. He already lost his wife in the second game and they had to go and off him in this game. It wasn't even at the end. It was right in the middle. The rest of the game just didn't feel right without him there. Anya is nice eye candy and all, but Dom's been with you since the first moment of the series.
Overall, it didn't blow me away, but it's probably the one in the series that I'm more likely to go back to even more (and I've played the other two a lot). Everything's more polished and refined this time around and there aren't any "ugh" moments. The series didn't go out with a bang, but it was a great send-off.
P.S. - The hand job Epic gave Cole Train was a bit stupid.
I thought that part you didn't like worked really well. It's war, it was unexpected and it was a pretty bad ass scene imo. It's easily the best campaign, I really loved it. The addition of female fighters is a great addition and helped solidify the world. The dialog between characters is the best in the series too. One of my favorite parts is when Cole sees the cardboard cut out of himself in the store and after staring at it for a bit he says,"Have you ever felt like you died and no one told you?"
I thought there were more "wow" moments just from the game being 90% outdoors. There's a lot of incredible vistas from cliff sides, ruined cities and the occasional tunnel section. The lighting effects are intense in this game and the added special effects really add a lot (the opening dream sequence is a perfect example). The sense of scope of a war torn world really comes through in this game, the extra time Epic had really shows.
26. NIER - PS3
Loved this thing. Emil's second form is bad. ass. An old ugly dude for a main character? Marketing execs at Square-Enix must have had conniptions. I could say so much about this game... but I don't have the energy.
I'll NG+ the second half at least once since there are storyline additions. Maybe do it a second time as well to get the last endings. Won't be doing the speed run or the horrible PS3-clock-resetting gardening horseshit.
27. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - DS
Goddamn the Touch Screen. Maybe the most frustrating final boss in series history as it includes a sequence that demands like fifty perfect swipes in a row. And let me tell you right now, this control scheme is NOWHERE NEAR refined enough to get away with demanding such a feat from the player. Nintendo is just in total denial. Outrageous and unacceptable.
The train also needs to be twice as fast. And spunky lil' Ghost Zelda needs more lines.
#19 - Uncharted 2
Beat it on hard. This game is 2 years old but it's still one of the best looking games out there. The train is really really impressive. The absolute best thing about it is that it doesn't resort to QTEs or cinemas when the really cool stuff happens - something that is more groundbreaking than it would first seem.
The gameplay mechanics are better than the first but I'm not crazy about the way the action flows compared to, for example, Gears of War. I did like the little stealth here. Overall, it's better than I thought it would be. One more off the backlog.
