Thread: Completion Thread 2011: Challenge of the Gods

  1. #10: EDF Insect Armaggedon

A solid sequel to one of my favorite games, but the game is really short. I thought the game was glitched when there were no more new missions after Chapter 3.5. I only finished it on normal so I still have a long way to go before I am done with the game, but I do wish there are more regular missions.

  2. 23. F.E.A.R. Extraction Point + Perseus Mandate - PC

Together they took a bit longer than the main game, so I'll give 'em a slot. Liked these better, but still a rather dry FPS experience. Turns out once you've seen a couple blood-splattered rooms you've pretty much seen them all (and you will be privy to more than a couple believe you me). Alma could use a good pair of comfortable walking shoes.

    24. inFAMOUS - PS3

Good karma playthrough. I really liked this. Better than Crackdown. If there was New Game+ I'd consider an evil playthrough and possibly platinum. Missed opportunity, there.

edit: Oh yeah, got the Hard Finish trophy without any problems. (I left it on Hard after the game prompted me about an hour in.)

  3. Work has taken alot of my game time away during the first 3 months. I've also been chipping away at Fallout: New Vegas for over 72 hours and have set it aside, so I could actually finish a few games this year. Since June, I've managed to finish 3 games, and it's my total for the year so far.

    June

Heavy Rain: It wasn't that difficult of a game to complete and I enjoyed the 10 or less hours the game offered. I might play through it again in the next couple of months.

    July

Killzone 3: I liked this one a bit more than KZ2. The levels offered a lot more variety than the previous chapter, but the game was rather short. It seems like it only took about 8 hours to complete.

Crysis 2 (PC): I waited until the game was $40, before taking the plunge. It was also nice that a couple of patches were available to make this game a DX11 showcase, that pushed my PC hardware. It was a fairly long campaign for a FPS, but I'm not complaining. My wife went to work today, so I'd decided to play the last 3 or 4 hours of the game, on the 52" LCD in the livingroom. I also cranked up the 5.1 surround to make the experience all the better. I had a good time, but the game still needs another patch to clear up some of the lighting issues (sli) I encountered along the way.

  4. 25. Tomb Raider: Underworld - PS3

I don't know how Crystal Dynamics keeps getting away with these. Each installment is buggier than the last. This is the glitchiest of the franchise (after Angel of Darkness naturally). Mysterious spontaneous deaths, hard freezes, honeypot geometry. It's got it all! And didn't they bitch when it "only" sold like two million? Brass nuts on these guys.

    22. Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS3, )

I continue to fail to understand why developers think it's a good idea to ditch levels for open worlds. It didn't work for Castlevania, and it doesn't work for Sly either. I mostly enjoyed it, and my daughter absolutely can't get enough of this series, but it's just not close to the first game. It also seemed to be a little finicky about the circle button when trying to grab on. I don't recall a single issue in the first game, but I "missed" enough in this game that it became irritating. That said, I'd trade Murray and Bentley objectives for missing with Sly in a heartbeat. I have no choice but to move onto 3 in the near future. While still watching the credits, my daughter said, "You haven't started Sly 3 yet!"

Completely agreed, Yoshi. The third game adds EVEN MORE fucking people who are not Sly. Enjoy.

The only thing I didn't love about this game was the lack of boss battles and the fact that Isaac's dead girlfriend spoke too softly to understand everything she said. The rest of the game was awesome. Capcom can put a bullet through RE, which is just so stale and shitty compared to this.

Overhead stages suck, side-scrolling stages were great. The music hadn't developed that trademark Technosoft excellence, but the seed was definitely visible. Solid shooter overall.

That's a feature that only comes standard on the highest quality women.

  9. 22. Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS3)

It was ok I guess. I was playing it with a new girl I'm seeing, so I wasn't paying much attention to it (if you know what I mean). She looked really cute trying to figure out all the platforming puzzles though. We're gonna start up Sly 3 tonight.

  10. What do you mean?
