27. Super Mario Bros. 3
Famicom version, has a little more bite to it since you revert to little Mario when getting hit in any form.
A very good game, obviously. I might like FDS SMB2 a little more, for the difficulty curve and the retry point spacing, but I'm not sure about that yet. There's no doubt that this game beats the hell out of it aesthetically, and it has just the right amount of flashy new stuff per stage while still making the player really get to know the older stuff from older stages even better.
World 8 is pretty much perfect. It has so many wonderful forced-scrolling stages. The little item pool with the grabby hands is placed in just the right spot, and serves as a good oasis without being abusable. Pretty much the only thing wrong in all of World 8 is the kinda bland final boss battle.
So very night and day when compared to the super mediocre NSMB DS, and it's a good amount better than the already pretty good NSMB Wii.
