  1. Last Window: The Secret of Cape West

Bittersweet. Bitter because it's the last Cing game, which makes it the last Kyle Hyde game. Sweet because it somehow met the high nostalgia bar of the first game, and in some ways managed to surpass it.

The game's not perfect. There are some cheap events that will result in an instant game over. Thankfully, the checkpoints are gentle. But it's an overall excellent point-and-click adventure with deep characters, well-written dialogue, and quite possibly one of the best soundtracks in a video game. I paid through the nose to import this, and I have no regrets whatsoever.

  2. Monster Tale (DS)- OK Dream Rift, I will purchase anything you churn out at this point. For convenience, bullet points!!!!!!!!!!

    - Backtracking is OBSNUNEXTREME. Seriously, it's awful in the way a person texting you to pick something up 5 minutes after you left the F*)&*ing store is.

    - Chomp never feels like he is used to full potential.

+ I dig the melee combat in Dream Rift's games, added bonus that Monster Tale doesn't wear it out as much as Henry.

+ Main point. The thing that kept me going through this was the wonderful art direction for the levels. This game is going to stick with me for a long time from the nighclub level to the eerie autumn forest with children's toys buried in the leaves.

  3. You will notice a theme here:

#14 - Portal - I beat this game in 2007 and it really hasn't aged a day. I think it's overrated by a tad but it's still really cool, ice-cold atmosphere and sharp mechanics.

#15 - Half-Life 2 - I beat this in 2005 and well, it's not so great anymore. The last few chapters are awesome but the rest of the game is filled with mostly mediocre combat and stupid "check out our physics engine" puzzles.

#16 - Half-Life 2 Episode 1 - This is a terrible first person shooter. And I don't mean relative to the rest of Valve's output. It's just bad. I see why they abandoned their 6-month episode strategy.

Next up is E2 and Portal 2 to complete the Valve Source engine set.

edit: on HL2, everyone is making FPS games like this nowadays and I feel like most of them are better. But of course it's 7 years old.

  4. I keep saying that about Half-Life 2.

  5. I agree with Diff and Comp.

  6. Half-Life 2 was great on release, but in retrospect it's probably just "pretty good." There's definitely better when it comes to all of these "too many first person cutscenes" first person shooters. They really dropped the ball with the enemy behavior in this one, if I remember right.

Portal is cool, but I wish Advanced was way meatier.

Episode 1 was a collection of all the bland stuff in HL2, if I remember right. I haven't played it since release.

Episode 2 was great except for that antlion cave. That part was only okay. It's been years, though.

    TF2 kinda sucks.

Half-Life is probably the best single-player game Valve will ever make.

Pretty much. It was like, "hey, let's make a game made up of all the worst shit from our last game and then tie it up with an escort mission."

  8. #918
    #24 - Picross 3D (DS)

Finished the game with a perfect score on every puzzle. Fuck the online packs, I didn't get into this to play for the rest of my life. It was pretty good, but some of the time limits were a little too strict near the end. Time limits on Picross are dumb.

    Games still have this?

Is it just me, or does the credits use the same font as the Capcom logo?
