Thread: I'm walking the path of the Duo.(Turbo Duo advice thread)

  1. I'm walking the path of the Duo.(Turbo Duo advice thread)

I just got myself a Turbo Duo. Along with Y's book 1&2 cd, and a Ninja Spirits HuCard. I really am at a loss as to why someone turned this into store credit at GameSwitch, along with those games and a few others that are really nifty, like Soldier Blade, and Gate of Thunder.

So Im looking for advice on it, like games I should look out for(I like just about any genre), if there are any other controllers at all for the system, or other miscellaneous things.

Among the games this guy turned in and that Im having them hold for me untill I decide... were Y's 3. A Duo CD with Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, and Gate of Thunder. Soldier Blade. Vasteel, and a few others whos names escape me now. Might I be able to get a few impressions on those games?

  2. Soldier Blade! That's a great shmup. Take it! Ditto for the Gate of Thunder 3 in 1. Be on the lookout for:

Devil's Crush- best pinball ever made)
Dungeon Explorer- Someone took Gauntlet, made it into an RPG, and made it 5 player.
Bonk- The 3 in 1 should handle that.
Dracula X- but you know that already
    Blazing Lazers- Great shmup
    Splatterhouse-
    Power Golf- great golf game
Millitary Madness- Do you like Advance Wars?
    Neutopia- Do you like Zelda?
PhotoBoy- If you can play HuCards. Or just get the PS version.
    Rtype- if you like Rtype
Aero Blasters- Horizontal shmup, better than Genny version

  3. Ahh, thank you for the suggestions. The guy did bring in Dungeon Explorer and Neutopia, I'll have to check those out. Everything else on there looks intresting too... I'll be checking them out, unless R-Type turns out to be expensive... not really a fav of mine, though I have R-Types for PSX. Also, who made Blzing Lazers? That sounds really familier, I assume it was an arcade port?

So what about imports? Would I need a japanese system, can I mod this one? Do I need to do either of those things?

    Thanks again ^_^

If you have R-Types, there's really no need for you to buy the TG16 revs. The PSX revs are pretty much arcade-perfect.

Blazing Lazers? Hmmm...*racks brain* I know it wasn't Red (creator of the Star Soldier series) that developed it. I think it was Naxat Soft, or possibly Compile. Maybe both.

Japanese CD-ROMs are fully compatible (except for Arcade CDs, which require an Arcade Card). Japanese HuCards require a converter. There is a mod available for the Duo, but I'm unsure how reliable it is. My advice would be to check around the shmups.com message board; there are some chaps over there who do Turbo mods.

  5. Super nifty. I'm glad I'll be able to play imports without much trouble.

So Blazing Lazers isnt apart of the Pulstar series then? Cause I think I might be thinking about Blazing Star or something.

    Thanks

Compile is listed as a "cooperator" in the credits. My guess is that the game was a Hudson / Compile co-production.

  8. Keep the names of good Shmups coming please. ^_^

Also, are there any good platformers? What about puzzle games? Whats this parisol? parasol? parasol star something? I remember hearing good things about it, even though I cant spell it.

  10. I've been thinking of getting one myself... what should I expect to pay for a TD? (I'm too lazy to research it myself)
