Man, that family of four with an income of 20k sure are living large! Why should they not have to pay any income tax? I mean, 20k per year for four people? That's like 5k for each person!

what are you going to do? Some people are never going to believe welfare queens exist because the data doesn't reflect it. And people like you can talk all day about how you've been in their homes and you've seen all this expensive shit, but their just going to claim you're crazy, or have an axe to grind, or its all anecdotal evidence ("well maybe that one family had lots of shit, but all these other poor people...")
The ironic thing is that the people that flat out reject that some or any poor people are gaming the system or lying, are doing so because they don't actually know any poor people or any minorities in the first place. All they know is census data and random shitty polls.
They might not pay an income tax but they are paying SS/Medicare/Medicaid taxes, as well as local sales tax, government fees, and maybe even state income tax. "The poor don't pay any taxes" is simply not true.
And SS tax takes up a larger chunk of their income than it does for a rich person, since it's capped at 6.2% of ~$108,000. A person making $1M a year pays ~.7% of their income towards SS versus 6.2% for anyone under the cap.
edit: besides, nobody is even talking about "tax cuts for the poor." It's more about not seeing taxes cut even more for the rich. Especially if it means that important social programs need to be cut to balance the budget afterwards (this is about state level, not federal, since the federal budget doesn't "need" to balance).
