This actually isn't true. Our cleaning crew is exclusively union, and exclusively black.

Not necessarily directly related to your company, but affirmative action does sometimes result in a weird internal class system.

Like I worked at a pharmaceutical warehouse where the crew working inventory, maintainance, and doing hands-on work were 90% male, and to balance this out they had an office staff that was 100% female. It's ironic that this was to maintain a pretext that they didn't have discriminatory hiring practices because it couldn't be more obvious that they did.

But it's not, or at least not exclusively. It's also the perception of class. No one is going to peg me for ghetto, and part of that is because I'm white and I sound white (if you'll forgive the generality). That's an advantage, no?

Whites are still the majority of this country. They don't even separate themselves from other whites like Hispanics do.
