Thread: Batman: Arkham City

  1. I guess the controller rumbles when you are supposed to pull up. I figured it out. Getting the super grapple from beating the first 4 AR missions makes getting to all of the ringing phones way easier.

Yeah I see it this way too. Strange wanted the place to look like a madhouse and the only way to stop it from breaking out was to go to city hall and say zomg I messed up and now we need to nuke em all. He was proud of the way it all proceeded and was counting down to the implementation of Protocol 10 the whole time. I still havnt seen all the Riddler stuff that was mentioned before but I figured that this is what he wanted from Arkham Asylum.

  3. Picked up the PC Collector's Edition while I was in Singapore last week and struggling with installing this POS. Using the setup.exe, I get about 75% done and it crashes as the log says it can't find a file. I've tried multiple times and it's always a different file. Reading the AC forum, I tried using the game.msi to install by putting the necessary dlls into windows\sys32 and it gets to 50% with the same problem. Seems like a ton of people have this problem with the only solution being to pirate the game.

Anyone else have similar issues and any advice?

(It's definitely not the performance of my PC as I am running an i7 990X, 16MB RAM, Radeon HD 5870 2GB and have 4TB of space. Batman AA runs at max settings with an average FPS of 55 in benchmark.)

Does the retail version use Steamworks? If so, you could punch in the cd key on Steam and just download it. Not exactly an ideal solution, but better than nothing.

It doesn't activate through Steam from what I can tell but I did read that someone did try to register on Steam and it just started up the same retail installer since it's GFWL. The problem is that this CE was only distributed in small retail areas like South Africa and Singapore and includes the Catwoman DLC as part of the install (there is no code) so a bit afraid that I'll lose that through Steam but might as well try when I get home.

  6. I heard City was not GFWL and just Steamworks, only Asylum was GFWL. I could be wrong though. I know that Alan Wake is shockingly going to not be GFWL.
    Check out my blog: ExHardcoreGamer.com

  7. Asylum: GFWL only, available on Steam but without Steamworks integration

    City comes in two versions:
    Everywhere but Steam: GFWL only
On Steam: GFWL and Steamworks (used for Steam achievements and cloud saving*).

What this means in practice is that you can NOT buy a retail copy and register it on Steam. Same goes for other digital retailers.

*I don't believe cloud saving stops the savegame deletion bug that's present in lots of GFWL games. Arkham City's Steam release is kind of a clusterfuck of redundant DRM.

Wrong. The Steam version of Arkham City uses both Steamworks and GFWL.

And this post looks really stupid after epmode's explanation.

  9. Yah, my code doesn't work on Steam.

WTF WB, get this shit working!!! Looked at my Disc 1 and it has some weird corroding on the inside of the disc which may be the cause. Everytime I try to install the game, it reduces my PC to a standstill but looking at the resource manager, there are no significant buildups on the CPU, memory or hard disk accesses, everything is near idle. Yet, it still takes 3-4 hours to give me an error message.

PS: I love how the AC forums' community manager denies the existence of this CE....

This is probably the worst major game release on PC since The Saboteur.

  10. can't you just make an iso from the disc and install from that? or does it literally have DREs

failing that, grab a bootleg version and just install with your cd key or whatever
