And light gun games, which basically wouldn't exist on LCD/LED/Plasma TVs otherwise. But it never, ever should have been the main control focus for a platform. It should have been like an arcade stick.
I don't even need/want to play on the tablet. I just like the idea of being able to see extra content on it. Maps and inventory is the given, but game stats so I wouldn't have to pause to see how many kills/deaths, or throwing up the dashboard to invite friends would be awesome. Actually, can you go ahead and invite friends to games you are in already with smartglass? I know you can send text messages, but if you can't already, invited to party and games would be cool.
Yeah? How many games worth playing have adopted that control scheme? Im not arguing that pointer isnt better. Just that it hasnt been a huge game changer.
Yeah, I'm pretty glad for pointer controls in FPSes.
Dug Motion Plus in Resort, Red Steel, and Skyward Sword too. Issue is, why try to design something unique when shoehorning means less dev work? If you build something around a unique control scheme that can't translate to other platforms, why bother when you can just take the standard, bolt on waggle, and call it a day?
Why would I want to play with a damned candy bar for a pad? This is part of why people talk about third party. Because Nintendo shoehorns nonsense into their games to justify these controllers. If they din't make these, they'd just make games on controllers people like.
Part of that problem though is because the "hardcore" refuse to accept any kind of change. Look at a site like Neogaf and how many will argue that Dual Analog is faster/more accurate, but they've never actually used a Wiimote for a F/TPS. You have a very vocal minority that bitches about any kind of change that isn't just "better graphics". I really wish Sony had been more dedicated with Move, Uncharted 3 should have had move pointer control support. Any of the CoD games on Wii supported it, Metroid Prime Trilogy did, RE4 Wii Edition did. There were games that supported it and sold well, but it needed more "fans" behind it. Since the "hardcore" seem to prefer slow, aim assist needing dual analog, well....
Kinect and Move have garbage games because they were reactionary stopgap devices with fractured install bases. The Wii U still uses Wiimotes as a main control method, the pack-in game requires them for multiplayer.
There have been some great games on 360 and PS3, but none that my non-gamer family and friends could immediately get into and enjoy playing. I love Gears of War as much as the next guy, but it wasn't as fun as playing Wii bowling or Wii frisbee with my family.
