Thread: Official Wii U Thread

  1. Zombiu is actually a really well done game. Probably not for everyone though. I thought I posted about it when I played it last year, it must be buried somewhere in the wiiu thread though.

Anyone who naturally hates the gamepad and anything involved with it shouldn't play this. Or maybe they should. It is a game that is designed around the gamepad and uses it in interesting ways.

  2. I need to play it more, but was only able to play it when it was light out and the glare killed me. Enjoyed what I did play though.

P.S. It helps if you spell the game's name correctly.
I searched both spellings smarty pants.

I played it once and I was just anxiety-ridden the entire time. That's how I knew the game was well done. Shame that means I really can't enjoy it.

  5. I hated it. Thought it was clumsy and benefitted from that whole 'launch games = 20% bump' thing, but then tacked on to it was a 'mature Nintendo game 15% bump' AND a 'Exclusively on Nintendo 15% bump' so it was like triple bonus.

I couldn't even invert the turret gun. You can tilt the controller, but why do I want to do dumb shit

The turret gun only appears on the gamepad if I remember correctly. I assume they thought it would be weird to have the gyro work normally while having the controls be opposite. I don't think that was a lazy or bad decision, it's unfortunate that it didn't work out for you.

The game was specifically limiting to try new things. It's obvious that the game wasn't trying to make everything easy for players. But I agree that if trying new dumb shit isn't your style, you won't like the game.

  7. Yeah, I didn't have patience at the time. I might give it another go. But really, I loathe motion-y controls (just pointing is fine, but I don't like tilt all that much unless it's in one dimension and preferably bolted down to something, like a steering wheel for example) and I don't like diverting my attention to another display device.

  8. I'm not sure how far you got, but the game really forces you to use the second screen, and you actually have to hold it up and look around at walls and stuff all the time later in the game. So you might still not like it in the end, but I definitely think it's worth another shot to see what they did.

I actually don't think I liked it at first either, but because its such a big part of the game, it becomes normal instead of being a tacked on thing you have to do sometimes. The aiming from the screen (like the turret) is actually pretty cool later with the sniper.

Most of the time, motion controls/voice commands etc are a stupid extras, and whatever game would play the same or even better if that thing were left out. ZombiU is cool in my book because it was all in.

Now that we've seen their hand, are these exclusives enough to sell Wii U consoles in 2014 before the 2015 lineup is washed away by what seems to be the actual start of the current generation?

    • Hyrule Warriors (September)
    • Bayonetta 2 (October)
    • Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker (Holiday)
    • Super Smash Bros. (Holiday)

I'm particularly curious if anyone is actually planning on buying one, as opposed to just trying to predict the behavior of others (as I'm admittedly trying to do).

My opinion is that anyone who is is that interested in Smash Bros. likely already bought the console for Mario 3D World and that the other three aren't going to move significant units. That will lead to Nintendo's very strong 2015 lineup really not mattering as much as it could have with different timing.

Bayonetta certainly puts the icing on this year's best release month though for those that already have the system.

  10. The WiiU's best hope is that it can be a second console to people that love games.

No one is buying a system for any of those games except Smash.
