Thread: Arnold is back.

    That's not good enough.

  2. Arnold IS the point of seeing an Arnold movie. Just sayin'.

I posted that he has already in this thread. The Last Stand is actually a pretty good movie, as far as action flicks goes. It's different from usual Arnold fare now that he's old...he doesn't play a superhuman anymore, so the film feels a bit more grounded in reality than his old stuff. But that's not a bad thing. It also helps that he has a very solid backing cast.

It would have been hilariously bad if they tried to ignore his age, like they did in the last few U.S.-made Jackie Chan movies where they had obvious stuntmen doing the shit Jackie can't pull off anymore. That was embarrassing.

  6. He brings such gravitas to the role.

His supporting cast was good too, the pacing was tight, and the action was pretty brutal at times. The direction was excellent, also. A very enjoyable comeback for the Austrian Oak...it was a good overall action movie, not just a good Arnold movie. But it was also a bit depressing, as you can tell he really only has a couple of years left in the tank as far as making movies goes.

BTW, the scene from the red band trailer where the Vette grinded the rail on the bridge like a fucking skateboard wasn't in the movie, thankfully. That shot looked super-gay.
I thought it was great too. My dad and I both loved it. The second half, where most of the action took place, was awesome. The scene where Arnold tackles the guy off the roof and puts a bullet through his head as they are falling off was fucking badass and really well shot scene. The whole shootout at the end was well done.

You can't help but smile seeing Arnold back on the big screen. I'm looking forward to whatever else he stars in. Oh, and Johnny Knoxville was quite a surprise. His goofy character was perfect for him. Loved all his scenes.

    Oh wow.

  9. Saw The Last Stand Wednesday night and thought it was a bad movie. BUT, I still enjoyed it! It was fun in the way that the first Expendables was (I thought TLS was slightly better) and I agree with Dole that the supporting cast was surprisingly good. Arnold made me sad, however. He's just so obviously old now... it's tough for me to see the heroes of my youth age.

I won't be purchasing this one when it comes out on B-ray, but I was glad to support a new Arnie flick at the theater and will continue to do so for as long as he keeps making them.

  10. Sly's new movie "Bullet to the Head" opened this weekend and did even WORSE business than The Last Stand. While it opened in 6th place (as opposed to 10th for Arnold's movie), it only made $4.5 million (as opposed to Arnold's $6.3 mil opening weekend).

I guess the 80's are truly dead.
