Thread: Mad Skills Motocross

  1. Mad Skills Motocross

I love this game. It costs way too much on PC/Mac/Linux, and way too little on Apple iStuff, so if ya got an iThingy it's a no-brainer.

Anyway, it's got the track design of an advanced Excitebike with the complex physics of X-moto. The whole thing is ugly as sin, but the level design is brilliant. You will lose 30 times and just baaaaarely squeak by on the 31st run as soon as you pass a few warm up tracks. It is brutally hard, but everything follows some sort of logic. They must have agonized over the design because absolutely nothing is dis-jointed while still requiring frame-accurate input.

Even better, certain power-ups can really abuse the he'll out of the physics engine, but not until you have the basics down cold. So you get the fun of outlandish times on the leader boards without ever breaking the natural progression of the game.

Anybody else play this one? If not, play this one.

  2. I don't have an ithingy and I don't see it on Steam. Sounds pretty neat otherwise!

  3. Well, even without Steam the demo is free.

    It's the first "world".

  4. I love games like this, I will check it out on the ipad.

    Shame the artstyle is assy.

  5. Not much of a looker, is it?

It's interesting that there is no AI in this game... Just ghosts of runs by the developers. Initially it is very frustrating since the ghosts are so damn good, but then you realize that the ghosts show you the correct positioning and strategy to actually finish the course... Then you just have to do it faster. And speed totally depends on your rider's center of gravity on the bike. Very cool. The "least likely to tip over" position is far from the fastest.

And after you beat down the developer ghosts, it saves your own ghosts for time attack. Addictive as hell.
