Microsoft has filed for a Kinect-related patent, and it’s a doozy of an application. The abstract describes a camera-based system that would monitor the number of viewers in a room and check to see if the number of occupants exceeded a certain threshold set by the content provider. If there are too many warm bodies present, the device owner would be prompted to purchase a license for a greater number of viewers.

Not saying this will be a feature, it probably won't in fact, but kind of gives you an idea of what MS can do with this new Kinect.

Here's Farhad Manjoo of Slate on the Xbox One. He likes it. He's particularly pleased with the ease of use.

It's disappointing that XBLA stuff won't carry over. But I do expect a lot of it to be available in some form, eventually.

I frequently read Farhad Manjoo, and he's just a tech fetishist. He likes everything that is new.

His angle that this is something that Steve Jobs would have not just loved but come up with - a device you use to watch TV by hooking it up to another device you use to watch TV, complete with IR blasters - is just absurd.

brand new x86 ports that cost exactly the same as on 360's marketplace
