It's not about having too much faith in the modern day gamer, it's the fact that I've worked retail. People NEED to be able to buy and sell used games with out paying crazy fees. That is going to be a huge fucking turn off to the average person. A HUGE percentage of Gamestop's new sales come from people trading in games. This is going to make that so much more complicated/convoluted it's going to be a huge turn off once word of mouth spreads.
If publishers really think they are going to be able to charge $39.99 for year-old games with this system in place they are nuts. We'll see though.
Halo 5, $9.99 during a Memorial Day sale the year after release. If MS isn't ready to do that they are just wasting their time here.
Everything is hackable.
Are people going to care enough to keep trying is the question.
I don't know about where you are, but every single tech-y art show out here seems to have somebody fucking around with the Kinect lately. Sometimes it's really good! Sometimes not.
People seem to like a cheap pre-fabbed sensor array that's massively available.
Yeah, the only way I see all of this used game bullshit working out is if it's all paired with a really strong push for day-one digital distribution coupled with aggressive pricing, pricing that the used game tax would then reflect.
They've already confirmed that a PC version is coming out so it should be.
