Saturn was a poor choice for a Sega console, agreed that Saturn people are invariably nerds. However back in the day kids didn't ask "Do you have a Genesis", it was "Do you have Sega"

Apple has been releasing MacBook Pros for about a decade and somehow people have some way of knowing that they are buying a new one and not one from 2006.
It's happened to me in conversation a few times already, but that's me. For normal people, you're probably right.

"Do you have a Genesis controller?" or "Do you have a Dreamcast AV?"
But who am I kidding, with most people I have to completely disregard what words they use when asking me something, and break it down to concepts like "do you need the one that plugs into the wall, the tv, or the one you control the guy with?"

Shit, I'd fall off my chair if a person who asked if I had playstation games actually wanted games.
"No , man. The game. The game you play the games wit."
The problem is that companies invest gazillions into these brands so they aren't gonna throw it away just like that.

  6. the manufacturer is the brand.
Like with the car analogy, we don't have Chevy 1,2,3 or Ford A,B,C

How many people know it as the Microsoft Xbox and not just the Xbox? Coming out with a system not named Xbox at this point would be stupid.

    Not anymore.

  8. I'm assuming some of you listen to Led Zeppelin?

Well, they have this famous string of albums, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, and Led Zeppelin IV. What if Led Zeppelin III was called Led Zeppelin I?

I would like if Xbox continues this numerical trend though, just for the sake of pure comedic value. Xbox Zero would be kinda cool, but once we move into Xbox Minus One? Now we're really talking. Here's hoping the title of Microsoft's fifth console is -1

5 million units shipped to retailers

When you compare that to 7 million sold, MSFT is getting clobbered pretty good. I wouldn't have wanted to be Phil Spencer's staff on the first post-NPD call after they got beat even with Titanfall and bundles/sales galore.

The attach rate is 2.9, which is almost dead even with Sony's and probably is evidence against my hypothesis that Sony was counting PS+ downloads. I have no idea how people have found three games to buy on either of these systems.
