If Microsoft were smart, they'd bring the new Battletoads to something other than the Wii.

I'm on Will's side here. Revive the garbage series and leave Battletoads in the past.

edit: There are a small handful of once-at-least-partially-exclusive IPs from Microsoft's two previous consoles that would tempt me to buy an X1. Thankfully, they already fucked up Panzer Dragoon in spirit. One down. That leaves Dino Crisis, Shenmue (thus the partially), Gears of War, and Deathsmiles/ESP/Mushihimesama. If you add Rare's stable, as jyoung and Will did, Battletoads comes on board. That's it, end of list. There's your gameplan, Microsoft. Secure those or fuck off.

    edit2: I can't believe I forgot JSR.

So MSFT either needs to acquire developers or exclusive partnerships and fast. These games take a long time to make, so you could even make a case that if we don't hear about said acquisitions at E3, it'll be too late to compete for the lead. That said, there's a lot of money available to the second place horse, as long as the PS4 doesn't achieve PS2-like dominance.
I agree that the number of Sony studios are bigger and more prolific in comparison to Microsoft's but they've also been having a lot of turnover in employment in Guerilla Cambridge, Evolution, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica (canned new IP), and London studio on top of SCE Studio Liverpool going down which sucked because I loved Wipeout. There are also certain games they they kind of just sent out to die such as Puppeteer which would have benefited a lot more as a launch PS4 title rather than a tail end PS3 title and they really milked Ratchet & Clank to death.

Granted some of this may just be restructuring but I wouldn't be surprised if they kind of took the Microsoft route from the 360 era and played it more safe since they have the dominant console platform on top of their financial woes. Microsoft have good 2nd/3rd party partners in Remedy, Crytek, Playground Games, Double Helix/Iron Galaxy, and Insomniac with developing their exclusives and they even helped out Respawn with Titanfall so that game was just a bonus. Not sure what the status of Mistwalker is but they could arguably be considered a good 3rd party potential partner as well.

Out of all of their 1st party studios I think Black Tusk will be the one with the most to prove so I really want to see what they bring but they have a decent list of studios:

    343
    Rare
    Lionhead
    Press Play
    Turn 10
    Twisted Pixel

Some others like Lift London and LXP are recently rebranded/opened studios which we don't know a whole lot of but I'd expect to hear more of in the future.

  4. Sadly, Dino Crisis has fallen victim to Capcom's "survival horror games don't sell" theory.

Damn shame, because the original Dino Crisis was better than every Resident Evil game except the GameCube's REmake and RE4. I still haven't played the second or third Dino Crisis games.

That would be cool, it doesn't even need to be a crazy high budget game just a Live Arcade style beat em up.

  6. I really don't care about old shit. Nobody gave a shit about Jet Force Gemini a week after release, why bring it back?

I could see a Battletoads after the success of the KI revival, but whatever.

I kind of expect a new Crackdown but it needs to be damn amazing to make everyone forget about the second game. I don't even think the developers' moms can say anything nice about that game.

  7. Note: I liked Jet Force Gemini, and still don't care if they ever bring it back. I don't see the point. Just make an awesome third person shooter, the name won't move me.

  8. A new Jet Force Gemini would sell well so long as they made it true co-op (not just a shitty flying robot) and kept the original's best feature: dismembering and decapitating cute animals.

  9. JFG is one of those Microsoft owned Rare IP's that would be better put to use rather than just sitting on it and let it go to waste, I don't have anything against new IP's or anything but they have a good legacy of IP's to dig into that they already own. I don't mind if it's rebooted but it's probably the closest thing to a Ratchet and Clank that they have which can go through a variety of styles.
