Thread: Official PlayStation 4 Thread

  1. Sony is taking that PS+ subscription money and using it for who knows what. Probably to pay for licensing the free games. They sure aren't improving the service.

So, it's not any sort of conclusion which service is better in that regard.
But is it maxing out your connection? My point is that, I guess all of the hardware manufacturers, don't have the infrastructure in place. It shouldn't take me 6 hours to download a 4 gig file from SEN when a 4 gig file on my PC will download in less then 8 minutes. It took my friend 20 some hours to download the 40 gigs for AC Unity, when it should have taken maybe an hour. People keep pushing this all digital future, but that shit is not happening at 1 megabit a second.

This is what I'm talking about, its ridiculous.

  4. I still wasn't able to sign in to PSN when I got home at 10:15 and was thus becoming perturbed, but I found an article here and I'm currently back on and downloading the games. Definitely give it a shot if you're still locked out. And it seems to be downloading everything at about the same speed as my 360, which is pretty decent.

  5. "Does Netflix still work?"

    "Yes."

    "Amazon?"

    "Yes."

    "Awesome, Crisis Averted."

  6. 4 hours and 15 minutes to download Shadowfall. It was like I was back on 768k DSL.

  7. Official PlayStation 4 Thread

Just purchased the digital version of Dragon Age Inquisition tonight (to replace the physical copy I'd been borrowing.) 5.27GB main game plus a 334MB update file downloaded in 30 minutes and 4 seconds.

So, yeah, I don't know. *shrugs* Seems like it could be a problem with other people's set-ups and not PSN, unless there's a server issue in the way that I'm not hitting.

  8. It's definitely not my setup. You may be closer to a host city that isn't getting overloaded with traffic.

My system update loaded in less than a minute. My update for The Last of Us took a minute, or so. My Download of Killzone was just painfully slow.

  9. Shidoshi, you're the first person I've ever seen since Sony launched a network to not find it hilariously slow. You must live in a magical place.

Not sure exactly what the speeds are for each system, but between the slower download speeds and the installs I will say PS3 stuff tends to take twice as long as 360 digital games to get up and running. Steam is consistent at like 1.5MB/sec and is faster than either.

I also wish I had better ISP choices than bullshit and garbage, but here we are.

  10. Official PlayStation 4 Thread

PS3 absolutely was slow, and that was due in part to the internal hardware that wasn't well optimized for handling downloads. So, I don't deny the problems that system had for even a moment. With the PS4, though, I've found speeds to be very fast.

Xbox One, meanwhile, took me over three hours I think to download Sunset Overrdrive. Like almost everything else with the consoles, Sony and MS have just switched places this gen.
