I don't think it's so much the online play (although sure some games may run better on certain networks) but the advantage of having a higher user base for Xbox LIVE than PS3.Originally Posted by Diff-chan
Remember that the PS3 was Sony's major foray into online gaming whereas Microsoft already had a built in userbase from the first Xbox on top of more people in this particular generation.
Halo has been a huge draw for online players since Halo 2 so naturally there's that audience and the crossover between people who play both Halo and Call of Duty so if you have LIVE you have a lot more connections there. There are also little perks like carrying over memberships, a type of rewards system, their sales offers, apps, achievements, and online chat which makes the online experience feel more connected and immersive between players.
Sony just recently started doing that with their PlayStation Plus program which is pretty late to the party but it has it's own set of good perks as well so hopefully come next Gen they'll be on a more even level with LIVE in regards to online chat and a higher user base.

But it's not like I've had any trouble playing a game online on PS3.
I agree that PS3 online stunk at release but by the time they rolled out trophies it was mostly figured out. It's been good for longer than it has been bad.
