Did it all fall out because you never washed it?
Did it all fall out because you never washed it?
I tried not washing it for several weeks and it was... pretty bad.
Boo, Hiss.
Last year I buzzed my hair, then spent the following year without washing or cutting it once. No problems here.
My hair reaches the small of my back now, it is a pain in the ass, but I can't part with it. I have tips!
Just keep in mind that long hair is going to be with you for awhile, all the years it takes to grow it out. You have to be gentle with it - no super fast brush strokes when you're running late. Breakage and split-ends are likely to follow if you do that.
Don't blow dry, and don't really use any heat styling on your hair unless you're using a hair protectant. When your hair starts to get long, the natural oils produced on your scalp don't really reach the ends, so the heat will really make the ends brittle. Deep conditioning or a hair mask is recommended on the ends periodically. Washing your hair too often will dry it out.
When you really start to get some good length going, braid it as often as you can, especially before bed. I've found that braiding helps retain moisture, and just keeps it in good condition in general. My hair often drives me nuts if I don't contain it in a braid before going to bed.
I don't know how thick or dense your hair is, but mine is ridiculously dense/thick and every time I go to a hair stylist they try to thin it out for me. Thinning it out makes it far more manageable and lighter, but the growing out process sucks because you will have many different lengths, and don't let them use that damn razor tool - they cause a lot of split ends.
Anyway M, good luck. I can talk forever about hair...
Edit: Took a picture with my phone to show the crazyness. It isn't brushed. Hippy shit.

I am really very into it right now. I can also wear a hat, and then take it off without any ill effects. Utilitarian up in hurr.
Yes.
