Jackie Brown is another one of that movies that changes and gets better as I get older. He did good on that one.
Also, I thought the lack of heist showing in Reservoir Dogs was more about the lack of budget.

I just don't agree about how making it less over the top in a few instances would have made it better. I enjoyed the dialogue, the tension and the conclusions. I'm sure as a black person seeing Django stick it to a buncha no good southern racists was as cathartic as bear Jew gunning down Hitler in Basterds.
A German immigrant and black roaming the south as bounty hunters in the late 1800s was never going to be The Color Purple. From the outset it declared what it was and delivered just that IMO.
Maybe. It's not that I wanted realism, but there's a certain point where action gets stupid.
Like, I used to like action movies, until they started making them where people jump out of moving cars are triple axle in mid-air while shooting two guns and hitting 18 people in the eye. I can't watch that shit anymore, it's just too stupid. Django got a little stupid at points.
Still a good movie, though.

If I know it's gonna be flippy de do Gamecube Metal Gear shoot everyone at once I don't mind (same way I don't mind crazy wire work in my kung fu flicks) If it happens in a movie where it isn't appropriate (say, Booth runs up the wall to the balcony, does a backflip, and shoots Lincoln in the face) I'll be bummed.. but in an action movie? Bring it on.
That's the thing, though, Django wasn't really an action movie. It's like 75% dialog and only has one real "action" sequence, and it's crazy like that. That's why it was jarring for me.
This is coming from a guy who has loved everything Tarantino has ever done (to varying degrees). But in the same way Death Proof could have shaved a few minutes of weak dialog out, this could have shed a bit from the crazy action set-piece, and maybe a couple of the winky B-movie nods.
EDIT: I guess you just mean about action movies in general? I mean I liked The Matrix, but it had a built in mechanism to justify that shit. In stuff like Wanted or Red or GI Joe, it just comes off as kind of retarded and childish, and I get bored by it.

lol.
The first scene in the movie had two cartoon-style gunshot wounds and people exploding in to goo.
I think Frogs expectations of this movie were not appropriate to what the movie was.
It's interesting that the line immediately before the movie becomes a caricature of a Tarantino movie is "I couldn't help myself."
