My point was that there are two ways to know about the sword that are absolutely suggested by "plot points", as you put it.
1. you learn about it in the mind meld thing where it gives you a glimpse of their past or whatever. Unlikely, because like I said I doubt it's a 100% download or something, but your initial counterpoint to this is that they were supposed to "ignore that" or something which is just stupid because knowing more about your co-pilot is pretty much THE biggest plot point of the movie.
2. you know what the other pilot is thinking. Is that established? I'm not sure it is but it's not a big leap for a viewer to make when you know that they feel all of the emotions or whatever the hell Jax talks about feeling with his brother and... you know, the fact that they're supposed to be mind melded and move in sync or something.
Whatever. I don't think it's even remotely a stretch to say "wha? he was surprised by something that she already knew?" It doesn't really line up with the fiction as presented.

I haven't seen this but what's the reasoning for two pilots making the exact same movements? If they're doing the same thing why can't it just be one person?
