Well I watched the subtitled version and not an english dub. Sounded fine to me (Music that is).

The movie was originally released in theaters the States with the original Indonesian language (with English subtitles) but the new Linkin Park soundtrack inserted. They didn't bother doing an English language dub for it until the DVD was released. Not sure why they bothered...first of all, there's barely any dialogue, and second, what little dialogue there is sounds pretty bad-ass in Indonesian. I tried listening to the English dub on the DVD, and it's so hokey-sounding (typical kung-fu movie quality) that it took away from the gritty feeling of the movie somewhat.

Will do. I forgot to change the language settings before hitting play and then decided to leave it so that we could focus on the visuals without any distractions. The dub was pretty hokey, but I figured that it would be so it didn't really bother me.

I normally prefer dubs for the same reason- so I can concentrate on the visuals. But The Raid is an good exception.

I will see this film. I just don't remember enough of the plot from the first movie to wonder if this needed a direct sequel instead of a spiritual successor

In all honesty, you could watch the Raid without subtitles and still have a blast (I virtually did). I don't think it really matters what path they take if they keep the action at such a high standard.

Fans of The Raid should check out the segment Gareth Evans made for VHS 2. It's some of the best horror made in the last decade. It's just a shame that it's jammed in the middle of another movie.

The Raid barely has a plot...I watched it subtitled, but I don't think it would be too hard to follow at all without them. It's really just all about the action, anyway, which as I've previously said, was the best I've seen in the past decade.

And yeah, I keep hearing about the segment that Gareth Evans did for VHS 2...I really have to track that down.

The current cut that Gareth Evans' is working on has 17 action scenes that total about an hour and 5 five minutes. High hopes for this one.
