Thread: Taito: Type X3 Arcade Hardware Soon

  1. Arcade Taito: Type X3 Arcade Hardware Soon

    Source: AndriaSang

No hardware specs or supported games have been announced, but Taito is readying the Taito TypeX3 system for arcades. I'm guessing this will have Windows 7 with a DX11 capable graphics card, probably a GTX 580/590. Nothing at all really known at the moment other than Taito saying it's for next-gen arcade games (do they mean arcade titles that will finally be on par with PS3/360, or actually a Crysis crunching PC?).

    Discuss.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  2. It's an above average configuration. I've got a picture of what's on offer but need to upload it. CPU is configurable with the high end being an i7 2.6 Ghz, standard is Intel Q67 Express with 2GB DDR3. Standard video card is surprisingly, a Radeon HD 6770 or can be upgraded to a GeForce GTX 560Ti. Video output is not HDMI, still DVI.

    2013 Completion (2): PC (1), 360 (1)

  3. GTX 560Ti is pretty nice. That's Crysis-tier.

Excited to see what the developers do.

Sounds decent- maybe not on par with many PCs but surely above the 360/PS3. We'll probably be seeing watered down ports on consoles (the PC game market in Japan not being what it once was) until the Xbox 720 and PS4 hit. I'm thinking along the lines of Crysis 2 being cut down from PC to console- decent, but maybe with a lower framerate, TQ, and/or resolution.

It'd be cool to see an arcade version of Crysis come to this, just like Half-Life 2 did on Type X+. Of course, it'd end up getting linearized with time limits. Still, maxed Crysis shames most (or maybe all?) 3D arcade titles graphically.

The whole point of making an above average machine is that it's more affordable especially in countries like China where most of the parts are being made. In the past, X1 and X2 were too expensive and well performing emerging markets titles like KOF suffered since those countries couldn't afford to buy them. This way, there's a chance to monetize SE Asia and South America again. They just need to make sure their security is airtight unlike in the past.

I think this time around we may see more of the units in Europe and the areas mentioned above but the US is definitely out by default.

  7. One thing I forgot to mention, the Taito rep said that X3 is backwards compatible with X2.

  8. That's cool. Was X2 compatible with X?

  9. Just about every PC on the market today is backwards compatible with X2.
I love how modern arcade R&D consists of assembling commodity hardware out of a catalog and announcing it as a new platform.

This is cool... for Japan? I guess?
