I Bet You Don't Own This System

Looking back this could of been promising, yes they came out. Though the game interaction looks as limited as a Sega CD FMV game. Never have seen one for sale.

  2. Yeah, I mean it's more or less just a home version of the arcade laserdisc systems. I think that football game was the only unique game for it that never came out in the arcades. So yeah, pretty limited, cool at the time, but it's not really too surprising it never caught on.

  3. That was really neat when I first heard about it fifteen years ago.

The Laseractive did better, with the NEC and SEGA Pacs addition but again there were some better games.

I always wanted a Laseractive with the Sega and NEC pacs, but holy shit at the price they are going for these days. The Laseractive itself isn't bad, but the add ons are ridiculous.

I think you also have to mod the pacs individually for RGB, which was the deal breaker for me.

Yoshi: I'd have to check, but I know a guy who fiddles with the LA for fun, and I'm pretty sure he's figured out a way to RGB mod the main LA unit itself, and it works with either pac. The issue is that you still have to use composite for Laserdiscs, since they aren't encoded in RGB.

  8. I have a Laseractive with the Sega pak. Unfortunately I guess it's kind of common for the paks to stop interfacing correctly with the unit, so I have to fiddle fart with the thing to get it to work properly. The big disappointment for me was when you play Sega CD games, all the redbook audio gets passed through the optic hook up, but none of the PCM or whatever does. So you can have kickass sounding music, but no sound effects.

There was a time many moons ago that someone on Digital Press found an online store clearing out a lot of the Laseractive titles for $5 a pop. I sooo wish I jumped on that when I had the chance. I don't care enough about them to pay what they go for now.

SSJN: That's probably a capacitor problem in the Sega pack, and caps on that thing are a nightmare. I know a guy who would probably repair it for you cheap if you are interested.

  10. It's not like I'll use it, but no sense in not having it work properly. PM me.
