Rivals mode is the "autolog" mode. It's real addictive.
Thankfully, you unlock stuff across all modes. Any mode you play gets you experience points and unlocks.
@Diff To me, this game is a huge improvement over 2 and 3. I have had races where putting pressure on the car ahead me has caused them to try to take turns way to fast and they crash. The World Tour mode is a great place to start, but I have found using the Event Races to complete events very fun. Depending on what cars I have, I switch between Professional and Hard, sometimes going into medium difficulty on opponents.
For me, the main meet of the game in online. So far it had been me, Wildcat, and jyoung, but they are pretty much clean races except for accidents.

I played this game last weekend at Best Buy with Microsoft's new wireless racing wheel (resembles the Wii wheel designed for Mario Kart). At first I was really skeptical, but after a few laps, I was very pleasantly surprised. I love how the wheel controller maps your movements 1-to-1 with the animation in the driver seat view, and I find that I am able to make much more precise turns through corners by physically steering than by moving the thumb stick.
Now those are just my brief first impressions from a retail demo. Does anyone own this new steering wheel controller, and if so, would you recommend it after using it for an extended period of time?
That's the "speed wheel," right?
I don't own one, but have heard nothing but good things from those who do.
