E.G.G. is a GREAT game! Did you know?

I don't know why, but I had it in my head that E.G.G. was some crappy RPG that wasn't very good at all. A few friends of mine were also under that impression.

The game is NOT an RPG at all... it's an action/adventure game in the same vein as Zelda, with some clever puzzles and cool 3D boss fights. The majority of the game is done in GORGEOUS, hand-drawn 2D art that is high-res and miles above any 16-bit title.

How many people here have played it (and loved it), and how many were misguided into thinking it was a mediocre RPG? Who started that horrible falsehood?

The poor thing should be $7.99 at the most if you can find it, but is definitely worth $20.00, easy.

  2. Hehe, I got it new when it came out despite the rather unforgiving review in GameFan. I liked it quite a bit, but the last boss is a bitch if you dont have all your upgrades. Which is my main problem with the game. Most of the upgrades are obtained by doing the mini games which are a friggen pain.

But my opinion on the game is, Great looking back grounds, above average visuals everywhere else. Fun combat, fun non-frustrating puzzles, overall above average, but not really great game. Definitly a game most DC owners should have.

  3. Yup, I've been an EGG supporter for a long time now. This game goes right along side Red Dog for the best sleeper hits on the Dreamcast.

  4. Indeed, EGG is a good game. Anyone who doesn't own it by now is just silly. My only complaint is the cover art. Looks like some shit circa 1985.

  5. Well, I bought it about a month ago from a bargain bin. I had been looking for a discounted copy for ages though, thanks to posts I had read here about it being a quality game. I have not played it much yet though, but I am looking forward to.

The thing that held me back from buying it when it came out were that I had a friend who bought it and didn't like it. Doh...

Oh yeh, and that cover art is incredibly bad. Yeesh.

I know what you mean. We have the import in my store and the cover is sooooooo much nicer. What they think when they do things like that.. I will never know.

  7. sorry guys I disagree

I picked up EGG cheap too and made it to the first boss. I thought the game looked great , but the gameplay was lacking big time. You die way too easy. I like a challenge, but this game is ridiculous. Igave up after that. I heard red dog is a sleeper. I need to pick that one up

Well, there's certain areas where you're just not supposed to be in yet... after beating the first boss, you're supposed to turn around and head back to town, not melt the ice block and carry on. If a regular enemy hands you your ass too quickly, you know you're not supposed to be there yet.

If you mean you die too easy walking from the beginning of the game to the centipede boss, though, then the problem could be you, not the game. It's not Klonoa 2 or Kirby's-Dream-Land-in-normal-mode easy, but it is by NO means "ridiculous."

  9. heh, another E.G.G. thread. One of the first DC games I picked up and it's a fine game IMO. Amazing how the game was universely panned by every site, magazine. It's a solid game, there's a sea of crud out there far worse than E.G.G. will ever be. *-neo
