Thread: Looking to Build a Desktop

  1. When I bought my work pc on amazon I watched it jump up and down hundreds of dollars over the course of a couple of weeks. Eventually it came back down to $20 over the price I wanted and I pounced.

  2. Amazon costs itself a shit ton in shipping because of stuff like that. I order stuff all day long as it sells out on the store. Sometimes I'll get 5 separate packages of single games because I can't just add something to cart and let it chill for a few hours to see if I'll need something else. I can't make a list and order it all at once at the end of the day. I suppose their system makes sense when dealing with people since they'll flake out on a purchase, but they should have it so if a business adds something to cart it goes out of inventory and becomes earmarked for the business for a few hours or something.

  3. Eh, I've bought 5 of an item on Amazon at once and come home to five separate envelopes in my mailbox.
Why are you reading this? go to your general settings and uncheck the Show Signatures box already!

  4. That happens too .

  5. This is the PC I am currently working on. I'd like to get a 1080TI instead of a 1080 but that particular model seems difficult to find. I just started doing research so we will see how it goes. I'll be buying the parts over a few months.

Wait until you get that M.2 SSD out of the package. It's seriously like a stick of gum. It's the most impressive thing.

  7. The 1080Ti is way overpriced. You are not going to get $200-$250 worth of performance over the 1080. You made the right choice.

  8. any particular reason for the 1TB nvme drive? you could probably easily split that $450 between a 240gb (still nvme) m.2 drive for boot & apps and 1-2TB of standard 2.5" SSD storage for games and shit, but that's just the way I look at things

Yeah, I never got the appeal of paying all of that money for an M.2 drive, when a larger SSD can be had for less.

  10. That's basically what I did. I have a 120GB m2 SSD for my OS, and I used a 2.5"HDD I had laying around for everything else. Then when high capacity SSDs got a bit cheaper, I replaced the HDD.
