Thread: The return of a Barbarian thread

  1. The return of a Barbarian thread

Well, I finally got around to picking this game up, and it's a damn fun game. It's hard at first, but I'm starting to get the hang of it, so it's just a good challenge (and I have it set to the easiest level). Reminds me of how Powerstone plays, but with the RPG aspect of building your character up. I just got it, so I haven't had a chance to play multiplayer yet, but hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Anyone else break down and buy it too?

  2. Post more impressions, once you get to play it more. I seen it at my store today, so I might rent it tomorrow, if it will still be there.

It plays somewhat like Powerstone you say? Sounds interesting, since I love both PS1&2. Plus the leveling up of your chars?

  3. Cool, I've read a few lackluster reviews of it but it looks like a decent game. Feel free to post impressions as you play more.

And one thing I have to say. This game has one of the worst print ads I've ever seen *shiver*

  4. Well, after playing it some more, I realized that I just wanted to fight more, so I didn't spend a lot of time reading the quest stuff (it's just text in between each battle that tells the story... I mean, there IS a voiceover, but no cut scenes or anything). Anyway, it probably was just the path I took with my particular character, but there weren't many choices (the first few fights I could choose between 2, but then there seemed to be no choice). Again, I think this was just how I played that one character, and I'll start another character tonight, but I need to beat the last guy first. Also, you can only build up to Level 10, which is both good and bad. I see it as bad because A) the book shows someone at level 30, and B) I would like to have all the abilities and more stats for a character to have good, long battles that look brutal, but it's also good because then you won't have a super strong character to pick against a bunch of weak characters, or just a ton of strong chracters that don't really vary much in their play (like the problem I have with Tony Hawk games). later on though, the missions get a little varied, like you'll fight against two people, or 1 person with a "thug" as they call it. A Thug is a generic looking character that is weak, and is not playable. This is how they have the 8 man battles they mention on the back, you have 4 "real" fighters and 4 "thugs." The thugs can be picked up and used as weapons though There is also variety in missions such as what I came up to in my path, where there was an oblisk (sp?) in the area that I needed to destroy. After getting tired of trying to beat the last guy (I won't ruin it for anyone in case they consider that a spoiler), I tried doing a VS mode by myself, adding 3 CPU players, and 4 thugs, and it was a blast. I got to see more levels that way, and they are big. There are a lot of ways you can bust through walls and go into new areas or get thrown down onto a lower plane (unfortunately though, this does no damage, so it's more of a level change, than an attack). Just like powerstone, you can pick up objects and either swing them or throw them, including big pillars. There are 3 kinds of object, light, medium, and heavy, and your "lift" power determines which you can carry, and what you can do with them (the more lift, you can even do combos with objects). Another aspect like Powerstone is that you can hang on ceilings and attack from there. The only thing I miss from powerstone that would have been a nice addition here would be the ability to pick up more weapons, but that's minor, really. I say it's a lot of fun, especially for multiplayer (Which I have yet to do, but hey, I've had the game less than 24 hours). Hope this helps!
