If that was REALLY the case Game Informer woulda been first. Hell, if it were REALLY REALLY the case, all of print publishing would be a cold, rotting corpse six feet under already.

  3. I got to the regional in the Blockbuster Video Game Tournament (1996ish?) because of GamePro. They made a promo insert for the games in the tourney. I followed the tips for Sonic 3 exactly and destroyed everyone. I was so far ahead I just had to show up for the last round (virtua racing) to move on.

Gamefan, EGM, they have all returned in one shape or another. Gamepro in the 16 bit heyday was a good mag. Retro Games and Games are the 2 best video game magazines out now.

  5. actually gamepro was in very good magazine in 90 and 91 until diehard game fan show up and taking the light spot from it

Cockroaches have survived tens of millions of years.

Nah Game Informer has all of Game Stop's lackeys pushing subscriptions on people.

  8. I liked the magazine a couple years ago when Jon Davidson was EIC. It didn't last very long, but you could see a leap in quality when he came and a fall once he left for his current gig.

I did pick up the quarterly mag and it was dismal. Their big feature was their top 50 fighters. I bit, thinking it was an article on fighting game. I was wrong. It was literally a top 50 of fighting game characters. I mean, lists are lame and all, but at least an article on 50 fighting games would be something. The rest was "whats hot for 2012" garbage. A real wasted last attempt. RIP shitmag.

From what I've seen of it, it's pretty good. They make an effort to write some interesting articles, not just cut and paste the news that we've already heard on the internet by the time the issue hits the stands. I've been meaning to pick up a subscription instead of reading it for 5 minutes at a time trying to find shidoshi's articles at Barnes and Noble.

  10. I just renewed myself. The EGMi portion is a really great idea, but to be honest, aside from when I first signed up I never really looked at it.
Mags are for potty time. When I get my tablet, I'll make more use of the i part.
