Yeah, they were, and there were more of them too.
I'm pretty sure the 32X and Saturn versions also have different alternate cars.

You are both correct. The only thing in the Saturn version that resembled the 32x version was the original Forumla car if you were playing in Arcade Mode on the Saturn. It's a shame, I really loved the stock car on the 32x revision, but using the Saturn's steering wheel on the Saturn version was the closest we had to arcade perfect for a long time. Although in general, I'd rather play the 32x version.
