  1. 11. Lumines - Electronic Symphony



    Finished up Voyage mode. Better than I remember Lumines and Lumines II being when it comes to aesthetics. I'm straight-up dumbstruck at the decision to let players charge their avatar ability by mashing on the Vita's back touch panel, and the sessions last hella long as always, but the excellent Master mode makes up for all of that.

    1. Resident Evil: Revelations (3DS, Normal)

    This is without question my favorite portable game. The episodic concept worked perfectly, as I typically played one or two of the twelve at a time. I wish more console games adopted that pacing. The game wound up being just over 10 hours for me, so almost an hour per episode and in line with a TV drama. The balance between action and survival horror was much better than RE5's as well.

    Capcom's smartest move was knowing when and how to use the hardware. The Circle Pad Pro greatly enhanced the experience, though the game is highly playable with it. The 3D was effective and never gave me any sort of headache, even in longer sessions. And the touch screen garbage was kept to a minimum and never during action sequences. It was solely to open doors in various ways. Finally, and most importantly, the gyroscope doesn't do shit.

    It's too bad Nintendo screwed the pooch on 3DS achievements, but the Mission system in this worked well as a surrogate. Now that I've unlocked all the Raid levels, I'll have to get on my brother to finish the Campaign as well so we can knock them all out. Some day I'll go back and try either Hell difficulty or to do the no deaths play through.

  4. Dragon Quest IV - Probably come back for the optional dungeon later, but for now I'm putting this down. I've completed IV, V, and VI now on the DS remakes and it's hard to tell which one I liked most. IV is probably the easiest to play because it's generally shorter and the difficulty isn't that bad at all. It's a shame they didn't include the talking to other characters, because characters like Alena, Torneko, and the Twins are awesome. There's really not a lot to say, if you want a cool old school RPG that's fun for the characters having their own chapters and then the big final one, it's good! Finished at about 21 hours.

    Fire Emblem - Path of Radiance - I borrowed this from a friend two years ago because I wanted to play the Wii one; it's pretty good, a fire emblem game with some stupid set ups. Second time I've beaten it, this time beating the Black Knight in the 3rd to last mission. I had to force myself through the last missions because they take the full hour and a half and of course a character dies you end up replaying it because fuck that. Now I've started on the sequel which has some slightly better animation, but it's definitely a Wii launch title; I forgot how ugly it was.

    I almost picked up a copy of Revelaitons last week, but DIDN'T. If it's still there next week, MAYBE. I only want Revelaitons though, Revelations can go to hell.

    found the PCB for a very reasonable price so jumped on it, was doing well up to stage 4 using Beltiana on default settings, the bullets just become crazy fast from that point on so credit fed it a bit to make it to the end, will revisit and try to 1cc, much better sounding and less slowdown than the Saturn port.

Broken Sword: Shadow Of The Templars (iOS) - I've had it sitting on my phone since forever and wanted to delete it for space so I figured I would finish it up first, and it took a lot of forcing myself to get through. I ended up using a walkthrough for a few parts just to speed it up and still had a hard time maintaining interest; this game worked on pretty much no level for me. Maybe if I had played it back when it first came out it would've seemed more interesting and impressive, but it bored the crap out of me.

    Pretty good as far as first person shooters full of scripted scenes go. Awesome and powerful-feeling weapons, fun melee attacks, surprisingly good boss fights, good first person animations all over the place, some nice-looking environments, and the whole breach thing adds a nice twist in some situations. Hard mode isn't hard enough. Overall, the campaign is way better than The Darkness, but I'd put it below the Riddick games.
