Thread: Completion Thread 2012: Hai! Dekimashita!

  1. 19. Castlevania Aria of Sorrow (gba)

One of the better ones, kinda blew through it just to finish it off again. I think I can officially sell off the double pak, doubt I'll play these games again.

  2. Dear Esther (PC)

One of those things you just have to "play," since any discussion of what happens from start to finish is kind of a spoiler. I will say that I spent more time thinking about it afterwards than I did walking through it. I suppose that qualifies as an effective experience.

    Eternal Legacy (iOS)

Fucking Gameloft. A decent, good looking cell phone RPG that runs out of gas a before it runs out of dungeon. Also, the ending is literally 15 seconds, with no dialogue. Yeah.

  3. 10) Trials Evolution. I beat a total of 2 Extreme tracks, but that's fine. This felt substantially easier than the earlier games, but maybe that's the learning curve talking. They did a really good job of easing you into it this time around. I'll still be trying to post a few better times, and maybe even beat another Extreme track or two, but at this point I'm happy with what I've played.

  4. 41. Noitu Love 2: Devolution

Beat it years ago, but saw it re-released on Steam and purchased it. Great! Creative bosses, world settings, play on words (you are the successor of Noitu Love, or Evolution backwards and shouldn't exist, your name is Xoda, short for Xoda Rap, or Paradox, it's clever)! Super gorgeous, fluid and unique keyboard and mouse controls for a beat-em up and rather fair difficulty. Love the designs. The TV boss is one of the most original and cooky stuff I've plaid in a while.

  5. I just beat Mass Effect 2! Took me a year. I ended up losing Tali in the end sequence, oh well. Will be beating ME3 in another 3 years or so.

  6. 18. Street Fighter 2010

I get the vibe that this is a widely disliked game, and that's DUMB.

It starts off seeming brutal due to the unusual attacks your character has, but learning how to make use of them is great. By the time you beat the first few areas you'll have the basics down and things start making a lot of sense. Of course, the difficulty catches up again later on and makes you show your expertise with the actions available, and you get some tense boss fights. I like how the game often makes the range-increasing items dangerous to get. Nice variety in the bosses, and the game mixing up more traditional stages with forced scrolling ones and smaller arena-style ones is pretty neat. The visuals aren't as nice as Shatterhand or anything, but they aren't bad, and the music is good.

    cool game!

  7. 17. Prototype 2. Easy, stupid story. Pretty fun and violent. Starts to get old right as you finish it.
    18. Walking Dead Ep 1. Surprisingly good.

  8. I can't believe Prototype got a fucking sequel, that first game was so awful.

  9. 19. Genocide

Played the FM Towns version. A weird 2D action game. Level layouts and player moves remind me of Splatterhouse in their simplicity, only you're given a way larger health meter, an invulnerability-granting flip, and a neat manually-controlled orb that you can block and attack with. Controlling the orb while at the same time fighting dudes up close winds up being pretty fun. Given how forgiving the retry structure and health meter are as it stands, and given the length of the game (like, 30 minutes) it wouldn't surprise me if it were best approached as an arcade game.

    #27 - Botanicula (PC)

A lot more Samorost than Machinarium. Fun game. Destroys everything Telltale has ever done. Again.
