Thread: A Miserable Podcast of Secrets

  1. All the way at the bottom right. I'll have the logo go there again eventually.

  2. Cool. How married are you to the opening theme? It's so grating...

  3. Can't you guys do a little research before you talk about these things? It makes you seem less credible. Why should someone care to listen to you discuss a topic if you don't care to learn about it? Stick to what you know. It may just be me, but when I'm constantly hearing "I think" or "I'm not sure" it makes me want to turn it off.
This is the keyboard controller for the atari 2600. Basic came with some overlays for this so you could use letters and not just numbers.

  5. Atari could handle Pac Man just fine. It's just that it was given a terribly short development time. Check out Ms Pac Man for Atari. It's a much more respectable port and looks miles beyond Pac Man.
The Colecovision simply had poor timing. It sold over a million units its first year. Then the home console industry crashed.

  6. We go off on tangents all the time, so we'd either have to stifle that tendency, do way more research than is reasonable given the scope of the project, or bring in an expert every week. This episode is made up of us reminiscing about launches; it is not meant to be authoritative, neither is it advertised as such.

I had an outline going in about points I was going to hit - I had no earthly idea someone would ask what the VCS switches did. Also, did we even mention that Atari keypad? And what are you on about with Pac-Man and Coleco? Pac-Man wasn't well-received and the ColecoVision died prematurely. Did we claim otherwise?

  7. Someone said that pac man looked like crap and blamed it on the atari being junk. Someone else said the coleco did horrible. A million units aint horrible.
Discussing the launch of the VCS wasn't a tangent. Wiki has a list of launch games, so there didn't need to be a "did that come out? I'm not sure".
I'm probably being more harsh than I need to. I just don't want TNL to sound like idiots.

I definitely find this stuff to be somewhat frustrating but I'm okay with it like Nick said given the scope of the whole thing.

The past episode it was no one being able to articulate why the vectrex was impressive to look at.

  9. "I think Magnavox made a 3DO?" I won't belabor the point, but it's this kind of stuff that drives me insane.

  10. I have almost zero idea about Colecovision, Vectrex, 5200, and Master System. Good thing I wasn't there that episode for yet another voice of not knowing.
