They didn't have the budget to do that... Anyway, I remember seeing a preview for this movie long before it came out, and I thought the FX looked horrible. I'm gonna guess it was an unfinished FX work trailer, and that's very possible since it was way ahead of when it actually came out. WHen I saw the trailer on TV when it was actually coming to theaters, the FX looked a thousand times better. Anyway, I saw it when it came out on video, and i really enjoyed it... I'd like to get the new DVD.

  2. There was no way I was ever going to see Starship Troopers, some friends sorta forced me into it, and I was thrilled. Hella-fun, action movie with plenty of thought behind the circumstances and characters. Definately on a level with RoboCop. Not to be missed!

  3. lagomorph, you're not missing out on much with starship troopers. yeah, it has paul verhoven directing it, but it's nowhere as good as robocop. it tries, though, it really does. i'm gonna guess it was the script's fault and not verhoven's. i haven't read the book (probably never gonna), so i can't compare.

I dunno. Sure, he did Robocop. But he also did Showgirls.

    very true.

  6. Well, Showgirls wanst as bad as many people claim it too be.

Come one guys, Starship Troopers was a fun film. Cool action ride, what else would you expect it to be?

  7. i don't know about other people, but i was expected something as deep as robocop. even when i look at it just as an action movie, it still wasn't that great.

  8. This is Paul Verhoeven's funniest movie since Robocop. Verhoeven really is an underappreciated genius.

I'm amazed Verhoeven was even able to make this movie. Watching it, you kind of get the feeling that Verhoeven was casually mocking people like Denise Richards and Casper Van Dien by casting them in these ridiculous, stereotypical teen queen roles and them throwing them into these gory battle scenes.

The irony in this movie is just brilliant. Verhoeven uses the Melrose Place style to satirize wartime propaganda and draw subtle parallels to Nazi Europe and the United States' extreme arrogance with respect to the rest of the world.

Starship Troopers is a true camp classic.

  9. What Sleeve said, pretty much the same, what I posted in the beginning of this thread. So what, if the story wasnt deep, the action and fx were great, and it was exciting thrill ride, and that what it supposed to be.

well, basing this on the book and verhoeven's work in robocop, starship troopers is supposed to be deep. it's supposed to make fun of war the way robocop made fun of corporations and violence. however, i was just bummed that it didn't do it as well robocop.

ps - hey, get back to neomega.
