The book doesn't make fun of war. It was actually meant as propaganda to get young people to sign up for the military.Originally posted by Nash
well, basing this on the book and verhoeven's work in robocop, starship troopers is supposed to be deep. it's supposed to make fun of war the way robocop made fun of corporations and violence. however, i was just bummed that it didn't do it as well robocop.
well, i've never read the book. i just got that from what other people, who have read the book, told me. i guess they didn't understand it then.Originally posted by Saint of Killers

Maybe I didn't understand it.
Well, Thats why Verhooven's version is a satire of military, and military state, and it worked pretty well. There were some nice references of military politics, infantry role in war and how military affects the media.
It's also like a film version of Starcraft. Think about it. It's pretty weird when you watch it with that in mind.
No, you got it. The book is VERY pro-military. NOTE: While Heinline did spend some time (a couple years at most) in the navy, he never saw combat. Make of that what you will.Originally posted by Saint of Killers

"Max: Should I confront, subdue, and pummel the suspected perpetrator Sam?
Sam: Sick 'em up little buddy."
-Sam & Max, Freelance Police
I never got that message. I mean, Robocop I liked, but the whole "Kill the bugs" thing never did anything for me. I mean, why would they send thousands of soldiers to another planet to DIE, when they most likely have a nuclear technology? Bomb the stinkers... or get off their planet. Who asked you to come? If it was satirical, I didn't get the joke. It gave me a headache.

Rumpy, you right
It does remind to battle between Terrans and Zerg forces
Ohhh, More complaints. Why is everyone is trying to find some deep meaning in this film? Its an action entertainment, so just enjoy the ride.
