I still remember when grocery stores had comics and it was a 'thing' to walk down to the store and see what they had. And how exciting it was to go to odd stores in other towns with your mom/dad and find out they had different comics from your local store. Oh, and going to flea markets and finding old comics you never even knew about because their wasn't an internet then.

I also remember bringing them to school, and those shitty nylon backpacks fucking up the binding. And there was always that that gay nerdy shithead that wanted to argue that Wildcats were cooler than x-men. Oh and the borderline jock that either A. only collected wolverine or B. only collected venom comics.

I also remember how my cousin had every x-men and Excalibur comic going back to like 78 in his parent's basement and they all got dried out from the southern MS heat. I remember sneaking down there to read them and the dry paper would pull all the moisture out of my finger tips. He also had all of Elf-quest. (no, what you're thinking is correct.)

I don't even know if a kids now would understand why that period and the comics of it were so cool. For me, that was after Transformers, GIJoe, and TMNT was dying down and power rangers were picking up. So like 92, 93? Anime hadn't really exploded yet. Comics were the source for drawn characters going apeshitbuckwild on other characters. You got things in comics that you'd never get on Saturday morning. Comics in the 80s-95 were Shakespeare compared to 99% of cartoons.

  4. I once had issue #2 of Swamp Thing, but my parents had moved back in the 80's and it got lost along the way. I also had the large Batman comic books from the late 70's,

  5. I had about 5000 comics that i had been collecting since i was ten. When the wife and i broke up, she tossed them. That was back in 99 or 2000. I started to rebuild the collection a few years after that. I dont have a count, but ive 24 long boxes jam packed with them. I stopped collecting physical comics about two and a half years ago. Fuck modern comics for the most part. I will buy a comic here or there, download it, and pass it on or throw it

I stopped buying in the late 90s when everything had 10 spin offs and prices were like 2.50 -3.50. It got to where you could drop 30$ a month just keeping up with three characters. I mean shit, there were like three different soniic arche comics by then. And there might be 5 or more spidermans if you count specials or venom comics that feature him, or crossovers.

And Anime had hit and Viz was being a fag and printing manga in separate comic issues, or making up their own shit.

It just got to be too much for late high school me and my desire to buy gas and save for a car.

And fuck your wife for throwing your shit away. Did you like nail her mother?

  7. No, i got back together with her. Worst possible punishment for her.

Yeah, I remember collecting comics up until about the mid nineties, now I'll buy them, read them put them somewhere in the house until Steph tosses them. I generally stick to trades though.

Viz had Animerica I think. I remember reading Parasite in it. Yeah, Spider-Man was a big multi series dude. Amazing, Spectacular, Web of, Friendly Neighborhood, Venom etc.
